Getting Bold in Gulfstream Turf Feature

There's only one word to accurately describe today's Gulfstream Park feature, an optional secondary allowances for older males sprinting 5 furlongs on turf: Skull-buster.

It's not that there are too many ways to go, which there are, but all the competitors have warts in virtually any scenario; wrong style, a tad too slow, poor position, layups, etc. etc.

We'll venture on the fast working distance specialist Bold Thunder (8-1). Trainer Pat Farro has won and finished in the money with Monmouth shippers at this still young prime meet and the only time Paco Lopez was aloft recently resulted in a clear cut victory.

His figures are competitive at the trip and his outside position should keep him out of an early speed jam. A good trip could result in an upset at more than fair odds for a late developing 4YO that's won half his four lifetime starts at the distance.

Taking Bold Thunder to win at 6-1 or greater and keying him in super-exotic money positions with strong finishing old pro Awakino Cat (6-1), Starship Wildcat (20-1) for a crafty turn-back outfit, well spotted Night Officer (4-1) with Castellano and distance specialist Pirates Vow (10-1) with turf ace Kent Desormeaux.
