Get Down Upon the Swannee River

Gulfstream might have moved the highly anticipated Donn to tomorrow but two interesting stakes remain, Grade 3s, one for older males sprinting, the other for older females on the turf. Just to irritate WMC, we'll focus on the one with the bigger purse, the Suwannee River.

Well, Riposte (4-1) looks interesting, making her U.S. debut for Bill Mott after keeping Group 1 & G2 company in Europe. Then, there's ultra sharp Parranda (4-1), who raised her game and took the Florida Sunshine Millions F & M Turf in authoritative style.

And, of course, newly minted 4-year-old Caroline Thomas (3-1), a fast-finish third in the G1 Queen Elizabeth II last fall. But she's just getting started and we're not sure that Barclay Tagg has put her on the fence for this .

However, Shug McGaughey's Abaco (5-2) is the worthy early line favorite, and most probable winner in this matchup.

She returns with excellent spacing, is proven at this level, has a big late kick and Javier Castellano suits those types perfectly. There's not much speed signed on but there should be enough so that, at 9 furlongs, Abaco can be closer to the pace and not have too much to do at crunch time.

Taking Abaco to win, no price restrictions, and key-boxing first and second in multiples with her three rivals listed here.
