Nothing Comes Between Me and My Calvin

Virtually travelling to Hot Springs today for the Gr 3 Southwest Stakes, the penultimate stop on the way to the Arkansas Derby and it's no secret we're looking for the Wayne Lukas-trained Strong Mandate (2-1) to run as well in his season's debut as Will Take Charge did in his.

And we're looking for a strong effort from monster-working Tapiture (3-1), winner of the G2 Jockey Club Stakes in his juvenile finale.

But the play here is for value and, unlike his headier rivals, Ride On Curlin (6-1) had an important run over the track, a first rate sprint win, and he's run well in graded company going long, including the two-turn Street Sense at Churchill last fall in where he finished two lengths behind Tapiture after nearly blowing the first turn. He was also a good third to Havana in the G1 Champagne.

A race over the track is very helpful at Oaklawn and Borel will figure a way to save some ground even from post nine.

Taking Ride On Curlin to win at 5-1 or greater, key-boxing his in exactas with his rivals here, and adding sure-to-improve Coastline (8-1) to the exotics mix.
