Belmont’s Opening Day Feature a Real Scramble

There have been easier races than today's Affirmed Success sprint stakes for state-bred sprinters dashing 6 furlongs but we'll play the hand that's dealt.

What makes it difficult is projecting a clear cut front-runner or even the mid-packers and closers. As in most races, the trip will be the thing and we couldn't take a short price under any circumstances.

Between the Lines (8-1) has proven to race his best when fresh, is working bullets and is drawn well, his outer post suiting today's race shape that should produce a contentious pace, even if that scenario is a bit muddled.

But then Drama King (7-2) fits this same scenario, is faster, and from the kibd of connections that wants to break fast at this meeting.

On the bounce-rebound and back at his most effective distance, taking Drama King to win at 5-2 or greater and key-boxing exactas with Between the Lines and the fast and fresh Weekend Hideaway (5-1).

Number of Selections since 2007: 2011

Number of Win and Place Finishes: 600-388

Amount Wagered: $4,022.00 [$2 to win only]

Total Dollar Return on Investment: $4,062.50

Profit to Date: $40.50

Maker & Ramsey Seeking Another Keeneland Title

Today's Keeneland feature is a secondary allowances for older turf males going 1-1/16 miles and it appears to be a classy, fast-working returnee from a very live barn vs. a horse making its second start off a layup for the meet's leading connections.

And the latter, Granny's Kitten (4-1), owns better performance figures and gets blinkers for Mike Maker, a nine-time meet winner and 22% in this eye-wear scenario. The works are solid and Ken Ramsey wants this leading owner title. He's made it a habit of it here.

Clearly, early line favorite Sky Hero (5-2) is going to take lots of money while getting class relief, owning a workout regimen that won't quit and the hot riding Julien Leparoux in the boot.

Taking Granny's Kitten to win at 5-2 or greater, an exacta box with Sky Hero and adding Any Given Royal (8-1) and Town Extension (6-1) to the exotics mix.

Number of Selections since 2007: 2010

Number of Win and Place Finishes: 599-388

Amount Wagered: $4,020.00 [$2 to win only]

Total Dollar Return on Investment: $4,054.50

Profit to Date: $34.50
