Another Saturday Nite and I Need a Winner…

Today's Gulfstream feature is a tough one, something you'd expect from optional/claiming allowances types sprinting 5f on turf. Ergo, we're going for the gusto.

It's Saturday Nite (12-1) is not as accomplished as some of her rivals, then again not many in this group can claim they never lost at this trip, on this course, winning both her lifetime starts.

Making her third start off a lengthy layup, her last over the deeper Tampa course should tighten her sufficiently for this and her return to GP should wake her up sufficiently to possibly upset the group.

Taking It's Saturday Nite to win at 8-1 or greater and key-boxing her in multiple pools with solid favorite Indian Splendor (3-1), the sharp Zamquick (9-2), and the recently claimed Kiama (6-1).

Number of Selections since 2007: 1669

Number of Win and Place Finishes: 500-325

Amount Wagered: $3,338 [to win only]

Total Dollar Return on Investment: $3,461.20

Profit to Date: $123.20

I Like Wolfson’s Filly

Easy for me to say, since the talented Floridian has five of the 12 females entered in today's featured Miami Shores for which the returning, classy Wedding Toast (2-1) is a deserving favorite, especially with McLaughlin at the controls of a horse returning from a lengthy layoff; profitable in that scenario and with his stakes runners.

But we'll take whatever value is offered on Ol Donyo (9-2), cycling back to her best Energy Rating three starts back at today's trip, her second in three tries at the 7-furlong distance and only start on this surface. A tactical filly, Johnny V. should have close-up and saving ground until he's ready to pull the trigger. The filly is exiting the G3 Sugar Swirl which has produced a winner from a lone starter to return.

Taking Ol Donyo to win at 3-1 or greater, an exacta box with the favorite, and adding Best Behavior (5-1), Quiet Hour (8-1) and Flores Island (8-1) to the super-exotics mix.

A Sunday Stroll in the Parx

HRI has entered into a promotional relationship with in which each Sunday we analyze the six races that comprise their unique Pick 6 contest wager. The current featured track is Parx Racing. The following is a profile of races 4 through 9.

The bet is different from the traditional Pick 6 in that a player gets points for first, second, and third-place finishes (based on pari-mutuel payoffs) by his or her selections in each of the six races.

For example, if a player’s horse finished second, paying $4.00 to place and $3.00 to show, the player would receive 7 points toward his or her total. The player with the highest number of points accumulated during the sequence is declared the winner, collecting 60% of the net pool. The second and third highest-scoring players also get a share — 30% for second and 10% for third.

Sign up to play the wager at, make your selections, and follow the live national leaderboards after each race! And if you complete the Top 10, you get your $2 back.

Today's Feature Race Analysis play is in the eighth race, Blitzensmajikreign to win, at 4-1 or greater

FOURTH: 3-HOT OUT WEST (10-1) is properly spotted with restricted claimers following the slow 6F maiden win; shorter distance a plus on Energy Ratings. 5-REMEMBER THE PROM (5-2) is slower but hard trying and has been competitive with better open claimers and also might benefit from turn-back; Lasix has helped.

FIFTH: 6-FIERY GIZZARD (3-1) showed marked improvement when dropped to this level and stretched out for second career start; bred both sides for it and coming up perfectly to today’s added distance; Pino 27% effective with his maiden claimers. All D’Night (2-1) and Move Over Honey (8-5) are logical favorites.

SIXTH: 10-AY UP PAPI (5-1) has been highly competitive with restricted rivals; optimum spacing by this barn, had two sharp blowouts recently for this and drops another notch. Quiet Miracle (3-1) and Slow Heart Break (7-2) are logical contenders.

SEVENTH: 3-SCOUT’S HONOR (9-2) has won over very long layups and is suited by short sprints; makes debut for Aristone barn dropping in with restricted claimers for the first time and attracts Bisono. Cash Payout (5-2) makes first start off the Preciado claim (28% and profitable).

EIGHTH: 6-BLITZENSMAJIKREIGN (6-1) was very competitive in recent overnight stakes drops in with open allowance rivals stretching back around two turns; has done little wrong since debut and gets promise of live apprentice. 5-GUNS OF STEEL (9-2) earns excellent Energy Ratings consistently; Houghton barn, good stretching out, switches to Pennington.

NINTH: 6-FACUNDO (6-1) turns back into sprint for Petro, a profitable scenario, and returns to restricted company; earned lifetime best Energy Rating at this trip. 1/1A-entry DOS ORO (3-1) should benefit from recent return from lengthy layoff, owns excellent back figures, and makes second start for Lynch off layup (23%); logical favorite tops stable coupling.
