The Lady Has Style

Today's Belmont Park feature is the Grade 3 Victory Ride for 3YO fillies going the hybrid distance of 6-1/2 furlongs--and there's no shortage of speed signed on.

The speed of that speed looks like Red Velvet (3-1), coming off a New Pace Top earned without being unduly punished to do it. Her outside draw doesn't hurt either.

But Milam (5-2) has two things going for her in this match; the right style for the speed dynamics here, her ability at this distance, the spacing is perfect and she's been training very well at her CD base.

Taking Milam to win at 2-1 or greater, an exacta box with 'Velvet', and adding Miss Behavior (7-2) to the exotics mix.

Number of Selections since 2007: 1557

Number of Win-Place-Show Finishers: 475-299-240

Amount Wagered: $3,114 [to win only]

Total Dollar Return on Investment: $3,215.60

Profit to Date: $101.60

Riposte to Repeat in New York, New York

There are three features on today's Belmont card, including the "Chicken Mother Goose," the Manila Stakes, and the Grade 2 New York Stakes, the subject of our analysis.

Riposte (2-1) was sent to the lead in the paceless G2 Sheepshead Bay, not her preferred style, but stayed very well to score in her course debut. Lasix has helped, as has recent switch to Rosario, who is taking a return call here on this 4YO who still possesses considerable upside.

Taking Riposte to win at early line odds or greater, and an exacta box with improving price shot, Gathering (12-1).

Number of Selections since 2007: 1556

Number of Win-Place-Show Finishers: 474-299-240

Amount Wagered: $3,112 [to win only]

Total Dollar Return on Investment: $3,211.00

Profit to Date: $99.00

Los Barrachos? Mucho Dinero

For the third straight day this week, the Belmont feature going as the 8th race is on the turf, this one for 3YOs going 7F and it appears that Los Borrachos (8-1) may be set for his best go now.

After showing improved early speed two starts back, he finished willingly in last after stalking a laughably slow pace last out in what appeared to be a promising turf debut.

There is the promise of a lot more early speed in today's matchup and the turnback should suit him well as he meets his own age group after trying his elders. Bill Mott's second-time turfers generally improve and Chris DeCarlo accepts a return call.

Taking Los Borrachos to win, no prove restrictions, and key-boxing exacts with the versatile J to the Croft (4-1) and Watery Moon (8-1), who figures to benefit from his last.

Number of Selections since 2007: 1555

Number of Win-Place-Show Finishers: 474-298-240

Amount Wagered: $3,110 [to win only]

Total Dollar Return on Investment: $3,211.00

Profit to Date: $101.00
