Daredevil: Materiality Redux?

Three huge three year old preps but the Wood is the only one that appears to be a competitive betting race on paper. That's the good news; the bad news is that the early line favorite is a layover on the Pricci energy ratings, and if the track is wet, that's not going to hurt Daredevil (9-5), either.

OK, so he's trying to win a nine furlong Grade 1 off one 7 furlongs sprint? Well, that dynamic didn't hurt his stablemate Materiality is South Florida, so why not a repeat pattern here? He's had two solid works and Javier Castellano rides him back.

We will take Daredevil to win, no price restrictions, and key-box exactas with Frosted (5-2), sure to improve off his mysterious Fountain of Youth stretch effort, and New York leading hard-hitter, the International Star of New York, El Kabeir (3-1).

Also, adding Tiz Shea D. (8-1) to the super-exotic mix.

It Will Take A Lot to win Opening Keeneland Feature

It doesn't matter which horse you prefer in the opening day Transylvania Stakes for 3YOs going 1-1/16 miles on turf, you best not accept too short of a price; this one is a tough as they come.

It took quite and while but we've narrowed it down to three for the top of our ticket, from the inside-out: Majestico, A Lot and Luck of the Kitten, all owning projected energy figures of 82.

The Kitten holds a class edge as the first rate runner-up behind Hootenanny in the G1 BC Juvenile Turf. He's been prepared at Turfway by Mike Maker, an effective 21% with layoff returnees of 90 days or more and Mike Smith flies into the Midwest for the ride.

But if the removal blinkers turn out to be an experiment, speed from an outside post in his season's almost guarantees a tough assignment at a short price.

Majestico should be a more than fair price ad was beaten less than two lengths in the G3 Bourbon here last fall while still a maiden, earning an excellent figure. Well today he returns to Keeneland, draws inside position, and reunites with James Graham and broke the colt's maiden in the next start after the Bourbon. The strong pace will help.

But we'll go on record with A Lot, who came to hand in two GP this winter for Bill Mott, showing the desired incremental improvement on the Pricci Energy-Figures scale.

His recent optional/allowances score came following a game placing in the G3 Dania Beach after the addition of Lasix; Mott is 23% since-time Salix and Johnny Velazquez takes this tactical speedster with kick from an ideal post (4). Recent blowout at Payson indicates sharpness for this.

Taking A Lot to win, no price restrictions, key-boxing exactas with his rivals here, and adding Saham, Magic of Believing and Night Prowler on the 3rd and 4th lines of the super-exotics.

Number of Selections since 2008: 1719

Number of Win and Place Finishes: 519-331

Amount Wagered: $3,438 [to win only]

Total Dollar Return on Investment: $3,554.30

Taking Big Blue Nation in Today’s Big A Draft

An interesting starter allowances for 3 & up fillies and mares sprinting 6 furlongs in today's 7th race from the Big A.

Found it a bit difficult separating two fillies at the top but decided that True Blue Nation's tactical speed and outside draw puts Cornelio Velasquez in a perfect spot to control the proceedings off the break. Trainer Danny Gargan is a profitable 21% with new acquisitions and when returning within today's time frame.

Live Love Laugh's top-figure 6F trip over this surface will make her formidable and Breach of Duty, ideally suited by today's race conditions, gets live apprentice Angel Cruz on the re-ride.

Taking Big Blue Nation to win, no price restrictions, and key-boxing exactas with her rivals above.

That effort came when she was fresh, as did her maiden breaker while making her career debut.

Number of Selections since 2008: 1718

Number of Win and Place Finishes: 518-331

Amount Wagered: $3,436 [to win only]

Total Dollar Return on Investment: $3,550.00
