A Real Star Performer

Today's Belmont Park feature is the Grade 2 Sheepshead Bay for older fillies and mares racing 11 furlongs on what promises to be a soft turf course, which is just fine with Starformer (7-2). The Bill Mott trainee is a talented marathoner that has laudable tactical speed--the accent on tactical here--which gives her an edge to handle today's dynamics.

She can set the pace, sit back if challenged, taking advantage of her pole position, and Prado rides her like he owns her, winning fiur of his last five rides with one second aboard the Juddmonte mare.

Taking Starformer to win at 3-1 or greater and boxing her in the exacta with New York bred win machine, Hessonite (5-2), who also likes some give in the ground.
