A Weekend Holiday Never a Bad Idea

A typically terrific betting card for New York Bred Showcase Day, the first of two this year. The top attraction is the $200,000 Commentator Handicap (imagine that, a handicap).

There are any number of proven horses at today's one turn mile trip but we're opting for a horse with brilliance and a modicum of open company class but no experience at a flat mile. The 10-1 early line on Weekend Holiday doesn't hurt, either.

Colt has had a somewhat ambitious three-race season, first trip a turf sprint stakes off the bench at GP--not easy--followed by a game main track placing following a poor start the back on turf in a state-bred sprint stakes and now this.

Philip Serpe is profitable stretching out off two sprints, his best energy figures have come at either 7F or on this track, Reuniting with winning rider Lezcano, he'll never have better circumstances for getting a mile than he will today.

Taking Weekend Hideaway at 8-1 or greater and key-boxing in money-position multiples with sharp Chad Brown favorite Zivo (2-1) and his uncoupled mate and winner of this race last year, Readtheprospectus (8-1).
