Clement Wins Battle of Hot Trainers
Today’s Belmont featured third race; a preliminary allowances-optional claimer going a mile and a sixteenth on the inner turf—should the race remain on the grass—is as wide open as it gets despite the small field.
Chad Brown will saddle the fast horse on the Equiform scale, Carson Hall (2-1), and while the barn is going great right now, taking a short price on this runner doesn’t feel right.
Barocci (5-2) has the most upside while making his second start in this country following a wide-throughout try and missed by only 3/4s of a length.
The 4-year-old kept good company in Europe, should benefit from his last and Julien Leparoux takes the re-ride. Christophe Clement also having an excellent 2012 and the recent rains should find the course more to this colt’s liking and style.
Taking Barocci to win at 2-1 or great, and exacta key boxes with Carson Hall and adding Hangover Kid (4-1) from the barn of turf ace Jason Servis and very well intended returnee Rogue Victory (5-1) to the exotics mix. On dirt: Forward March (12-1)
Running Totals: (1095) 337-212-165 Total Dollar Return: $2,313.60 [win selections only]
