Playing It Safe with Recent Good Form

Today's featured 8th race at Belmont, an NX2 allowances/optional claimer for fillies and mares going 1-1/16 miles on the main track. None of the six entrants would leave handicappers with a good feeling. It's a crapshoot with more individual questions than answers; barn changes, class changes, all of it.

We're opting on the side of caution and taking the filly with the best current form and performance figures, Very Cherry Candy (9-5). She handles the distance and surface well, has improved in the Jacobson barn, and attracts the white hot Cornelio Velasquez, who's pushing all the right buttons whatever the dynamics.

Taking Very Cherry Candy to win at 2-1 or greater and key boxing in exactas with likely pacesetter Our Amazing Rose (5-2) and surface lover Tahoe Tigress (7-2).
