Timing Is Everything
Interesting dilemma in today’s third race allowance feature from Belmont Park: Do you prefer the two fast sprinters coming of the synthetics that might improve further on dirt, or do you go with the fast proven dirt form?
We decided to let spacing and connections decide this one. Saint Of Saints (3-1) is coming off a career best effort last time out when second at 6 ½ furlongs following his pacesetting try in the key Derby Trial. The mini-turnback helps but he returns relatively quickly.
The same can’t be said for Gypsy Robin (9-5) who’s attempting to win her fourth straight and was a Grade 2 winner at Keeneland start before last. However, she has reacted off top efforts in the past and meets males for the first time.
So it’s Doctor Chit (5-2) for us, an open-lengths maiden winner over Keeneland Poly before shipping north to Woodbine and winning a first-level allowances in another dominant performance. He’s held his form well since, if workouts are a measure, showing an ability to handle dirt on Saratoga’s Oklahoma training track.
Taking Doctor Chit to win at 2-1 or greater and keying him first and second in exotics with his rivals here.
