Doubling Down at the Spa

Given a stakes doubleheader for a Sunday afternoon, we’ll try to put together a cold rolling double from the 9th race to the 10th. Actually, it’s the only way to roll today; the favorites for the overnight Nani Rose Stakes and G2 Amsterdam are going to be very tough outs.

Someone has lit a fire under Rusty Arnold and he’s come out firing, 2-for-2 through racing Friday. He sends out Karlovy Vary I the Nani Rose, a 3-year-old filly that has everything going for her.

As a Grade 1 winner, she holds a wide class edge in this overnighter and, even if prepping, she should handle this group at less than 100 percent.

Her performance figures tower over the group, she’s drawn toward the middle which should insure a clear trip, and she has the meet’s leading rider, Ramon Dominguez, to carry her home if necessary.

We’re sure Currency Swap and his trainer, Teresa Pompay, are happy to be back in Saratoga and should prove it in the G2 Amsterdam.

A loss would be the colt’s first in three lifetime starts at the Spa, earning a stakes class figure in his debut at 2 and confirming that form with a subsequent G1 Hopeful score.

He’s won at today’s hybrid distance and his 6-furlong internal figure in the Woody Stephens was extremely fast. Further, he’s been training lights out at his Monmouth base.

So there it is. Hopefully, the 7-4 Double beginning in the ninth is as cold as it gets. Going on the HRI record with both to win.

Running Totals: (1125) 345-218-169 Total Dollar Return: $2,373.20 [win selections only] {Saturday Results Not Included}
