The Best Things in Saratoga Are Free

Today's feature at 5-1/2 furlongs on the turf is a beauty, the Caress Stakes for sprinting fillies and mares. On paper, the three highweights are the ones to beat and, of those, it's Free As a Bird who catches the eye most.

Yes, Madame Giry (7-2) does have those three course wins and Jewel of the Cat won the Coronation Cup (8-1) here last year under today's conditions but Free As a Bird has really come to hand at 5. She has brilliant speed if necessary, big kick when she wants, has a (3) 2-1-0 slate beneath Rosario, and inside draw and a string of bullet works for her Spa return. In short, all the weapons.

Taking Free As a Bird (5-2) to win, at early line odds or greater, and key-boxing her first and second in exactas with her rivals here.
