Can’t Walk Passed Clement’s Undefeated Filly

Man, these turf stakes have been head-scratchers up here and here comes the Tenski for good measure.

After some deliberation, trying to make a couple of price horses, I couldn't help to get back to the favorite, Walk Close (5-2).

It's not because she's undefeated, which she is, but because in the Wild Applause downstate, she had no pace in front of her and still went and wore done her rivals with a powerful late burst.

Two of her three wins have come at today's trip--albeit this one is around two turns--and Christophe Clement has cooled off some after a sensational Belmont stand, but Irad Ortiz? I'm running out of superlatives. He is riding with extreme confidence these days, making the right decisions, then timing many of his stakes wins just right.

Given the competition, I will need 2-1 or better on Walk Close to win, and will key-box her in the exacta with Courageous Julie (15-1) and adding the uncoupled Chad pair to the super-exotics mix; Hillhouse High (4-1) and Sweet Acclaim (3-1).
