It Takes a Thief

All sorts of added money events on today's Belmont card. We'll leave the chasers out of this and take the colts entered into the larger field Spite The Devil Stakes for New York-breds 3 & up going a mile. The question is whether Readtheprospectus (2-1) can extend his winning streak that dates back to October, 2012. We said yes, IF he can catch Brigand (5-2).

We don't think he will, Brigand gets his blinkers back, he should benefit from his return from a layup at Saratoga last month and has worked thrice since that 7 furlongs. His record has been spotty this year at 4 but his back at Belmont where he's had three exacta finishes in four starts but most importantly stretches out to his best trip, going (4) 2-2-0 at a mile. Given the speedy nature of the Belmont main track recently, we're going for the speed of the speed.

Taking Brigand to win at 2-1 or greater and key boxing him in exactas with the early line favorite, Horse for Course Night Maneuver (4-1), and adding the returning Zeiterholm (10-1) and the well positioned Spa City Fever (8-1).
