Hoping Slow Pace Makes this Race for Shug Trainee

Given the lack of clearly defined pace in today's one mile turf feature at Belmont, an NW3 allowances, we will gamble with Johnny V. to win the rider's race battle with Aazelia (7-2) in an upset.

The ship-in Tricky Escape (8-5) is a worthy favorite off her recent stakes effort at Kentucky Downs after winner her G3 prior. She holds a wide edge on both the Thoro-Graph and Pricci Energy scales. But turning back into a paceless mile doesn't help her chances.

Azaelia showed improved speed in a pace-hungry return and her freshness still serves her well here. She's not as fast as her rivals on figures but figures to have an edge considering pace dynamics, her post and rider. Two recent sharp breezes will have her on her toes.

Taking Azaelia to win at 5-2 or greater and key-boxing exactas with the fave and the LAY-2 returnee Princess Gibraltar (6-1) who should benefit from her troubled U.S. debut.
