A Horse for the Course, of course, of course

Today's Belmont Park feature is the overnight Coastal Stakes for 3YO males that has attracted a fairly eclectic group of state-bred stakes winners, stakes placed open class runners and speedsters looking to stretch out and two-turn turn-backers.

In the one turn 1-1/16 miles, it's Smooth Bert (4-1) that seems best positioned for the trip and the win. The distance is clearly do-able given his proven ability at one mile and the surface is the selling point as he brings a worthy (5) 2-1-1 slate to the dance. Nicely drawn in mid-pack, the colt goes very well for Luzzi and the Gyarmati barn has been very live the last month.

Taking Smooth Bert to win at 7-2 or greater and key boxing him in multiples with the dangerously fresh Saint Vigeur (5-2) and stretchout Tenango (6-1), who appeared to have a useful effort last time, both in receipt of five pounds from the choice.
