On Any Given Showcase Day

New York-bred Showcase Day in recent years has been the third-largest handle day of the year behind only Belmont day and Travers. Full fields, lots of diversity and a horse population familiar to New York regulars provide plenty of grist for the gambling mill.

The feature, of course, is the NYB Classic at a mile and quarter for 3-year-olds and up and it usually is very contentious. This year's renewal is no exception.

Of the top that appear to be clear favorites going in, the preference is for Saratoga Snacks (5-2) over leading trainer Chad Brown's Readtheprospectus (2-1), who hasn't lost in over a year.

A Big Sandy lover, having won 3 of 4 over the local ground, he owns excellent speed and is a classy individual, something which can allow him to get all of the race's 9 furlongs. His most recent work was the fastest of 61peers to work at Belmont late last week. Joel Rosario and an outside draw in a small field can only help.

Taking Saratoga Snacks to win at 2-1 or greater, an exacta box with the early line favorite, and will add distance loving Awesome Vision (4-1), sharp ship-in Warrioroftheroses (10-1) and Zetterholm (8-1), from the live Nevin barn, to the super-exotics mix.
