Gentle Giants Need Not Apply

If purse money is the measure, there are three Belmont features to choose but we'll take the Basket Weave for 3YOs going 1-1/16 miles on turf where a solid case can be made for six of the nine grass entrants. And in today's 9th race, we're going for the gusto with state-bred West Hills Giant (12-1), a colt that was toughened this spring on the classics trail.

Training with purpose for the last six weeks after making a strong effort in the Stallion Stakes at Saratoga, he owns the right blend of tactical speed and kick to upset a group that's long on early pace. Trainer John Terranova is a profitable 31% effective in non-graded stakes and the colt goes very well beneath Edgar Prado.

Taking West Hills Giant to win at 8-1 or greater and key boxing in exactas with undefeated Calm Pacific (5-1) and Joha (7-2), getting class relief here.
