Flattery Will Get You…to the Winners Circle
Today's featured event on opening day at Gulfstream Park is, well, an event: the Claiming Crown. The series concludes with the jewel in the crown, well, they call it the Claiming Crown Jewel it's called. Go figure, right?.
Anyway, what makes this a particuarly vexing handicapping puzzle is that a number of entrants have been cross-entered, which not only has an effect on, obviously, the degree of difficulty, but also the projected pace scenario. Still, we soldier on.
In his career, 5-year-old Flatter This (4-1) has only been 9 furlongs once, and failed. But he consistently haa run well against hard hitters going around two turns at Calder and can take his talents another further, especially given the switch to Jose Lezcano, who has an uncanny knack timing the run of deep closers. That theory will be tested here.
Taking Flatter This to win at early line odds or greater, boxing an exacta with Private Tale, and adding Parent's Honor (10-1) and Dan and Sheila (15-1) to the exotic mix.
