A Grade 1 Finale to the 2017 New York Season

The last Grade 1 of the New York season is the Cigar Mile, and today's renewal is one of the most competitive we can remember in its young albeit storied history.

Two of the runners exit the Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile; another stretches out from the BC Sprint. Throw in a couple of up-and-comers, another very talented closing sprinter and what remains is one hell of a horse race.

Will the bullet-fast, highly consistent Dirt Mile runner-up get that elusive G1 title with new partner Javier Castellano? Sharp Azteca is the deserving 2-1 early line favorite, but seems up against the dynamics with the fast, lightly-weighted Americanize shipping in from SoCal with Rafael Bejarano.

Can Practical Joke (7-2) remain undefeated around one turn? We've loved him since he was a baby but, despite his impossible Dirt Mile trip and recent training, today's rivals might prove a little too quick for him.

Will Mind Your Biscuits (5-1), a strong-finish, too-late third in the Sprint be as effective at the longer trip? At anything near his early odds, we'll pay to find out.

With one exception this year, the chestnut 4YO never has failed to fire. In fact, we think the Sprint and today's spacing sets up nicely for this task. The pressure is on Irad to time his move perfectly.

We'll take Mind Your Biscuits to win at 7-2 or greater and key-boxing exactas with his rivals above.
