Speed Dangerous at Any Distance
No turf sprint feature today as racing resumes at Gulfstream Park. Instead, the race will be around a hundred turns, or as many as it takes to race a mile and seven-sixteenths, a teensy less than a mile an a half, of course.
If classifying is your game, early line favorite Havant (9-5) who finished third in a Calder Grade 3 after being beaten less than four lengths in the E P Taylor, a Canadian Grade 1. Jose lezcano rides her back for Christophe Clement.
Instead, we'll focus on a Canadian trainer, Hall of Famer Roger Attfield, who has entered Janiceellaine (4-1) in this fray. Her best recent races have come at 12 furlongs and is the likely controlling speed from an inside post. Attifield is a worthy 22% efficient with his allowances types, who gets some class relief in this spot. Gabriel Saez, who finished third on this 4-year-old in the G3 My Charmer, takes a return call.
Taking Janiceelaine to win at 7-2 or greater and key boxing her in multiples with the favorite and Ciao Bella (2-1), the Todd Plether trained marathoner.
