La Verdad the Honorable Thing to Do

Today's Spa feature is the G2 Honorable Miss for fillies and mares going 6 furlongs marking the local return of sprint champion Judy the Beauty (1-1). We think we can beat her, but don't expect to get rich doing so.

La Verdad (8-5) has a lot going for her: Linda Rice. a profitable 35% in graded events, has her in great form; 3-for-3 on the year. Her best distance is today's 6 furlongs (10-for-13) whereas Judy's is a tad longer. She gets three pounds from the champ, is quicker away from the barrier and she comes into Saratoga fresher than she did last year.

We're taking the speed of the speed, La Verdad, to win with no price restrictions, a boxed exacta with the favorite and using the sharp Street Story (5-1 to complete a virtually cold trifecta.

On the Road to the Shore

Hopefully this will tide you over until Jim Dandy-Haskell weekend:

The Lucky Coin Stakes at 5-1/2 furlongs on the turf features some accomplished grass sprinters but we're looking at an up and comer and a possible tote buster.

Shore Runner (3-1), from the live barn of Joe Sharp, has all the tools for victory. Fastest on the TG scale, he owns tactical speed, kick, pole position and Kendrick Carmouche, an underrated turf rider, gets the return call. There's plenty of gas in here to assure the rider a time to get clear at some juncture while also saving ground.

Meanwhile, we love how Rick Schosberg's handling upstart Sandy'z Slew 12-1). Nicely in at 115 pounds, he's nicely positioned outside the speed, giving Junior Alvarado plenty of targets. The spacing indicates a fresh horse that's been pointed toward this.

Taking Shore Runner to win at 2-1 or greater, an exacta box with Sandy'z Slew, with a possible saver wager at 8-1 or more, and we're adding Dreamsgonewild (10-1) to the
super-exotics mix.
