Like this Mott Trainee A Lot

Strange spot for the Bill Mott-trained A Lot in today's Paradise Creek, an excellent second in a Grade 2 behind the budding turf star Divisidero into a listed stakes, back in relatively quickly.

Even if this is a prep for something richer and more important, the colt turning back to 7 furlongs should have this field at his mercy should he repeat his last. The one to beat clearly is Coroninthebarbarian, badly in need of a confidence builder; this is a good spot for that, the choice notwithstanding, making his first start for new trainer Chad Brown.

Taking A Lot to win, no price restrictions, and boxing the exacta with Croninthebarbarian.

Trying to Avoid the Trap in Tricky Belmont Feature

Small fields, among other reasons, are tricky just because they are, more often than not, a "jockey's race," and when tactics become an overwhelming consideration, well, you know...

This is a extremely rare NW4--hello Shug-and that's the thing: It will be early line favorite Reload's (8-5) first race in 15 months. If he's ready, he likely will extend his career turf mark to 3-for-3. If not, what then?

A horse that sneaks here with the most wins in NY-bred speedster Plainview (7-2), as all those state-bred wins don't count against him today. In fact, he's getting 6 pounds from Reload.

There is a chance that rivals might not challenge Plainview for the lead and hurt their own chances, and that's what we'll bank on here. Besides Greg DiPrima, albeit with a small sample, is a profitable 29% with horses in a LAY-2 scenario, the case here.

We'll take Plainview to win at 3-1 or greater and key-box exactas with Reload and the sharp Unbridled Ocean (4-1), which owns tactical speed, kick and pole position.

Number of Selections since 2007: 1751

Number of Win and Place Finishes: 527-333

Amount Wagered: $3,502 [to win only]

Total Dollar Return on Investment: $3,609.80

Profit to Date: $107.80

Making a Very Small Fortune in Belmont Turf Feature

Today's Belmont featured 7th race is a tricky read--but not if Secret Fortune (3-1) runs back to eye-catching turf debut at GP. Two things; course was fast during that period at that was 6 furlongs, not 7.

But late developing 4YO had huge work at Finger Lakes base for Jeremiah Englehart, who knows a thing or two about turf sprinters, and the spacing looks perfect as barn is 23% effective in this time frame..

Taking Secret Fortune to win at 5-2 or greater, key-boxing exactas with turf meant Manhattan Mischief (4-1) and Manofmanyvirtues (6-1), and adding potential price shots Hidden Vow (10-1) and Glowing Amber (8-1) to the super-exotics mix.

Number of Selections since 2007: 1750

Number of Win and Place Finishes: 527-333

Amount Wagered: $3,500 [to win only]

Total Dollar Return on Investment: $3,609.80

Profit to Date: $109.80
