Wilkes/Hernandez Team Can Sneak Up on this Group

Today's Spa feature to close out Week 4 of the 2014 season is the Summer Colony overnight stakes for fillies and mares going 9 furlongs on the main track.

It's hard to know where the early pace is coming from with any certitude but we do link the idea that Ambusher (4-1) is coming into this off a new pace top and is getting class relief dropping from graded stakes. The spacing is good give his recent schedule and Brian Hernandez Jr. is taking a return call.

Taking Ambusher to win at 3-1 or greater and key-boxing exactas with Zucchini Flower (7-2), from very live conne3ctions, and Natalie Victoria (9-5), who should benefit from recent return from a layoff.

Number of Selections since 2007: 1593

Number of Win-Place-Show Finishers: 485-308-245

Amount Wagered: $3,186 [to win only]

Total Dollar Return on Investment: $3,276.00

A Total Eclipse in the Sword Dancer

Today's Spa feature is the G1 Sword Dancer Invitational and there's an excellent chance that a minor upset could be in the making.

Indeed, Main Sequence (2-1) made an excellent U.S. debut taking the G1 United Nations at Monmouth with a strong late rally. Euro bounce, anyone?

Not saying that will be the case but not willing to take a short price to find out; I'll take whatever value I can get with Twilight Eclipse (5-2), who did the dirty work in the U.N. but paid the price in deep stretch.

Now the West Point runner is stretching to his best distance, the Albertrani barn is having a strong meet, the trainer also profitable in LAY-3 scenarios, the case here.

Taking Twilight Eclipse to win, no price restrictions, and an exacta box with the favorite.

Number of Selections since 2007: 1592

Number of Win-Place-Show Finishers: 485-308-244

Amount Wagered: $3,184 [to win only]

Total Dollar Return on Investment: $3,276.00

Profit to Date: $92.00

Keeponwinningmaria

Today's feature is the Grade 1 Alabama and, once again, the favorite appears too strong on paper. If there were--for me--a viable alternative, I'd take it. Just don't see one and, from that perspective, this exercise has recently gotten old.

When last seen, Stopchargingmaria (2-1) dominated the G1 Coaching Club American Oaks, beating today's major contenders. The new shooters are not nearly as accomplished and with a dearth of early speed, the favorite's tactical style should enable a good trip from the outside at the 10 furlong trip.

We're taking the favorite to win, no price restrictions, and key-boxing exactas with Unbridled Forever (4-1), who might really appreciate the added distance, and the late developing Size (5-1).

Number of Selections since 2007: 1590

Number of Win-Place-Show Finishers: 484-308-244

Amount Wagered: $3,180 [to win only]

Total Dollar Return on Investment: $3,272.00

Profit to Date: $92.00 {Friday not included}
