No Substitution for Alternation

If you're looking for just one good reason to back Alternation (6-1) in today's Grade 2 Peter Pan at Belmont Park, seek out a replay of the Arkansas Derby and note how far back this colt was before finishing fifth, beaten 6-1/4 lengths. With Grade 1, 9-furlong experience under his girth plus a switch to Ramon Dominguez, we're all in.

Taking Alternation to win at 9-2 or greater and key boxing him in the multiples with Uncle Brent (4-1) and Prime Cut (9-2).

Don’t Make Waves, Call the Police

Taking a look at the Belmont featured 7th race, a non-winners of 1 other-than for straight 3-year-olds going a mile. Some promising colts in this lineup and clearly Ripples N’ Waves (7-5) is a deserving favorite based on his top performance-figure victory going this distance at Aqueduct last month while showing quick maturity with a reversal of his energy distribution.

But we’ll take any value offered on Police Chatter (6-1) who graduated on the stretch-out from six to seven furlongs at Gulfstream off a very strong early pace, showing courage to get the job done--slow final fraction or not.

But visual impressions notwithstanding, the New Pace Top combined with an outfit that’s a worthy 29 percent efficient with third-off-the-layup starters, a very sharp local five furlong work, termed breezing, and the 11-pound weight pull he gets from the favorite could find him difficult to catch with an alert beginning. Apprentice Ryan Curatola is gaining more confidence every day.

Taking Police Chatter to win at 9-2 or greater and an exacta box with the favorite.

Go Beau

In today’s featured Island Sun at Belmont Park on the turf, there are any number of mile specialists and horses for the course but it appears that Beau Choix (3-1) has the edge in this very competitive overnight stakes.

Making his second start off the layoff--he won his season’s debut over weaker at Keeneland April 15--he returns to his most effective distance (Lifetime best in Pimlico mile) he was a good third on this course when compromised by a moderate pace in the G1 Jamaica.

He had a sharp half mile breeze here following his return to New York and Alan Garcia takes the re-ride for Barclay Tagg.

Taking Beau Choix to win at 5-2 or greater and boxing him in the exact with Right One, who impressed in his U.S. for Clement at Gulfstream.
