Child’s Play for Giants Play?

Whichever filly you land on in today’s Gulfstream feature for fillies and mare preliminary allowance types going a marathon distance, taking a short price should be out of the question, certainly no lower than 5-1.

Three of the ladies are making their U.S. debuts for trainers named Biancone, Clement and Motion. Do you think any would have a problem getting one ready off a lengthy layup? Me neither.

The newcomer that interests us is Giants Play (8-1), the Clement filly. He raced very consistently as a Euro three year old, albeit on lesser circuits, and her Pps indicate she has tactical speed, good for our turf courses, not so much over there. Clement likes to use Bravo, and Jersey Joe’s riding well here.

We’re taking Giants Play to win at 6-1 or greater, and keying her in money positions in the multiples with Up In Lights (4-1), La Luna De Miel (5-1), Silk Route (7-2) and Champagnelifestyle (6-1).

Rock Rolls in South Florida

Yesterday we spoke of a highly contentious race that, because of its difficulty, often yield favorable results in terms of value. Today’s feature may be too much of a good thing.

With serious cases to be made for Mutiny (8-1), Longboarder (4-1) and Estimate (3-1), we’ll attempt to make the best case for Devon Rock (6-1).

Jimmy Jerkens trainee was visually impressive in his maiden turf score at Belmont but disappointed since. However, this 4-year-old ran well enough in tougher company to still believe his future is on the grass.

Recent off-the-turf mile should tighten up this colt who broke maiden at special asking last year, a Jerkens specialty, and he finds himself in a similar scenario here.

With speed and capable of stalking from close range, Alan Garcia, who rides him back, can work out a good trip from his inside draw. Devon Rock worked well at his Palm Meadows base for this for a barn that’s a profitable 21% efficient with second-off-the-layup runners.

Taking Devon Rock to win at 5-1 or greater and keying him first and second in the multiples with his rivals listed here.

Going for the Gusto at the Gulf

Back in the day, today’s feature at Gulfstream Park, is a preliminary allowances you would expect to see here in the winter, or Saratoga in the summer. In Europe, this field would be at least listed stakes quality.

No need for a search warrant to find the favorite. The performance figure earned by Ari C. (5-2) actually towers over the group, and stronger connections that Team Todd you will not find. But this is far from a one-horse race, given the talent of the competition.

Film Making (4-1), from the fine turf mare Film Maker, broke her maiden with an exploive late run between horses at Tampa. Crimson China (5-1) makes her U.S. debut for Graham Motion and Team Valor with good lines, Motion winning both turf stakes at Tampa on Saturday.

But there are two price shots that are appealing, Team Block’s Sun Tracer (10-1) and Eddie Kenneally’s Disfraz (10-1), like the favorite, a maiden winner over the course, and in good time, showing a stylish late kick. She’s come back to train steadily since and the added distance and inside draw should help her pull off an upset.

Taking Disfraz to win at 9-1 or greater and keying her in all multiple positions with her rivals listed here.
