Keertana Perfect Fit for De La Rose

A remarkably contentious turf feature to begin the Saratoga week, the De La Rose overnight stakes for older fillies going a mile on the inner turf and with all the early pace signed on pre scratches, late runners would seem to have a tactical edge.

In Keertana (7-2), players have a little of both. Owning tactical speed and an inside post in a bulky field, look for Jose Lezcano to establish ground saving position throughout until the real running starts. Trainer Tom Proctor’s horses have come out running thus far in the young meet.

It will be up to this young talented rider--profitable lifetime with turf mounts--to find a way through, either out kicking the competition late or holding them safe if Lezcano attempts a mid-race move. While the inner turf is tight, its stretch is actually longer than the Mellon course.

Taking Keertana to win at 3-1 or greater and keying her first and second in exactas with Deveron (6-1), turning back to a more suitable distance after uncharacteristically setting the pace in a 10-furlong Grade 2, and Miss Keller (3-1), a big kicker who ships down sharp for Roger Attfield who sent two fillies to finish 1-3 in the Lake George.

Running Totals: (697) 225-141-97 Total Dollar Return: $1,571.40 [win selections only]

Nothing Discreet About This Colt

Try as I might, there’s no way I can build a case against strong Amsterdam favorite, Discreetly Mine (8-5). Name a category, whether it be demonstrated class, versatility, distance, speed, pace, this colt’s get it, including connections.

And if all those variables aren’t convincing enough, a half-mile blowout in :46 1/5, termed breezing, was best of 92 three-year-olds to work that week in Saratoga. Case closed.

Taking Discreetly Mine to win, no price restrictions, keying him in multiples with General Maximus (6-1), Safe Trip (4-1) and Rule By Night (12-1).

Running Totals: (696) 224-141-97 Total Dollar Return: $1,568.20 [win selections only]

On a Wing and a Prayer

Given her accomplishments, Unrivaled Belle (1-1) is a worthy high weight and deserving favorite. The potential race shape of the G1 Ruffian says otherwise. No filly is in better form right now than Malibu Prayer (2-1).

She coming up to nine furlongs perfectly, off graduating distances, in her third start off the layup. Not only is she lone, dominant speed, but she gets off the deeper Monmouth surface in favor of a Saratoga two-turner that might find her loose on an easy lead.

Now only has she drawn the pole under these favorable conditions but no one excels more in these situations for Johnny Velazquez, reuniting with the filly for main client Todd Pletcher.

Taking Malibu Prayer to win at 8-5 or greater and an exacta box with Unrivaled Belle.

Running Totals: (695) 223-141-97 Total Dollar Return: $1,561.50 [win selections only]
