There’s Value in Mount Vernon

Ladies first, as far as the two statebred turf stakes at Belmont are concerned as we look at the Mount Vernon for 3 year olds and up going a mile on the turf.

Clearly, the veteran Chorus Music (2-1) is a deserving favorite as she seeks her third straight score, tactical speed, a tidy inside draw and superior figures on the Equiform scale. But it’s Exclusive Scheme (5-1) who is more interesting.

She moved prematurely in her last, tiring late, but switches to the more patient Dominguez, providing he’s back riding today, she’s earned her best figures either on this course or at this trip, and worked twice since her latest, including a very sharp half mile blowout.

Taking Exclusive Scheme to win at 7-2 or greater and an exacta box with Chorus Music.

Running Totals: (867) 273-178-119 Total Dollar Return: $1,903.60 [win selections only]

The Trip Means All in Sheepshead Bay

It sure seems like today's Grade 2 Sheepshead Bay at Belmont Park going 11 furlongs on turf is a two-horse affair pitting the two favorites, Hibaayeb (2-1) and Le Luna De Miel (5-2), against each other. If that's not the case, I'll consider myself scooped.

Taking Hibaayeb in this matchup to win, at 8-5 or greater, because she seems handier in what figures be a slow-paced affair, and is nicely drawn with JR.

Running Totals: (866) 272-178-119 Total Dollar Return: $1,898.70 [win selections only]

Take the Taconic to Victory

If today’s Belmont feature doesn’t resemble a test right of Handicapping 101, I wouldn’t know another to top it.

It’s a secondary allowances for older fillies going the hybrid 6-½ furlongs and three of the five entrants are long on early speed and a hot early pace seems assured.

Of the two remaining fillies, one prefers racing fresh, has enough tactical speed to stay within range, is nicely drawn outside, has competitive performance figures and has done her best racing at today’s distance. Case closed.

Taking Taconic Victory, 9-5 on the early line, to win, with no price restrictions.

Running Totals: (865) 272-177-119 Total Dollar Return: $1,898.70 [win selections only]
