It’s Two, Two Picks in One!

Two stakes, two selections on the day, and a chance to get alive in a rolling double that’s part of a Pick Six with a $66,000 carryover.

In the restricted Chaldea Stakes, Strike The Bell (9-5) is back with straight three-year-old and back on Belmont turf at 7 furlongs where she earned a lifetime best performance figure. Her late kick is complemented with sufficient pace up front here and Ramon Dominguez looks to make it two straight.

But the interesting filly here is Haka (4-1), making her first tart for Christophe Clement. She will appreciate the class relief, dropping from graded stakes company, and raced well enough in her lone turf start as a two-year-old, indicating that her return to that surface is fitting, especially coming off the synthetic surface at Santa Anita.

The winner of the next race, the John Hettinger for state-bred females going nine furlongs, looks like it must come out of the Yaddo at Saratoga. Nehantic Cat (6-5) was the impressive winner but Crazy Catlady (12-1) was only beaten a couple of lengths and had a least a length worth of trouble on the turn.

With the favorite picking up three pounds to 123 and with the ‘Catlady’ returning to her favorite course and switching to Johnny Velazquez, it makes sense not to take a short price on the highweight.

Taking Haka to win at 5-2 or greater and an exacta box with Strike The Bell.

Taking Crazy Catlady to win at 8-12 or more and exacta key boxes with Nehantic and Chestoria (3-1) Take a 2x3 double wheel from the eighth to the ninth races.

Running Totals: (506) 150-105-70 Total Dollar Return: $1,020.10 [win selections only]

Bogey at Four O’Clock

With Inca King coming back to the races quickly and Fluke likely to be an overbet favorite, we’ll look at two promising alternatives in today’s eighth race turf feature at Belmont Park: Yield Bogey (6-1) and Radical Sabbatical (4-1).

The latter, half of the very solid Barclay Tagg entry, has been unlucky in recent starts, one of which he won. But that win came on this course--over which he’s won half his four lifetime starts while 1-for-10 anywhere else--and returns to Belmont with a very purposeful workline and picks up Alan Garcia, back riding in his very best form.

His outside draw and tactical speed on the Widener Course at this distance suits him well.

Yield Bogey is interesting and he’s very likely to fall between the parimutuel cracks. After overcoming much trouble in a 7-furlong sprint on this course at the summer meet, he was tried in a pair of graded stakes to no avail, although was third in the G3 Poker on this course.

He handles any footing and his last pacesetting effort at Saratoga should set him up nicely for his return to Elmont for Pat Kelly and Jean-Luc Samyn.

Taking Yield Bogey to win at 6-1 or greater, boxing him in the exacta with the Tagg entry headed by Radical Sabbatical. Trifecta players can add the aforementioned Inca King, Fluke and the Mott-trained Broad River (8-1) to the mix.

Running Totals: (504) 150-104-70 Total Dollar Return: $1,020.10 [win selections only] {Thursday results not included}
