Dreaming of Value

Today’s feature, a classified allowances for state-bred fillies going a mile on turf, might be in jeopardy if the weather handicappers are correct--chance of thunderstorms. This analysis will concentrate on grass.

Favorite Cagey Girl (9-5) is going to be a tough out. She showed improvement winning her last, her first start for the Asmussen barn, she’s controlling speed, loves the route and returns with excellent six-week spacing.

What we’re hoping, however, is that Alan Garcia on Merriwether Jessica notes this and uses his filly to put pressure on Cagey Girl. ‘Jessica’ is coming off a sharp win here in her first start since the shift to Rick Violette’s shed.

Johnny Velazquez will be keeping an eye on both of them from the pole aboard Paraiba and, hopefully, Javier Castellano will be sitting close-up behind all three with late developing 4 year old Our Golden Dream (5-1). Her performance figures have been improving incrementally, indicating further development is likely, and her running style might enable her to make the last move at this trip a winning one. Two of her three lifetime wins have come on Belmont grass.

Taking Our Golden Dream to win at 4-1 or greater and boxing her in the exacta with Cagey Girl.

Running Totals: (687) 220-140-96 Total Dollar Return: $1,541.90 [win selections only] {Tuesday Results not included}

Note: Beginning Friday, July 23, the start of the 2010 Saratoga race meet, the Feature Race Analysis will appear every racing, six per week, through Labor Day. Further, there will be the occasional bonus analysis on occasions when there is more than one featured event on the program

Crazy Like a Fox

Today’s feature at Delaware, a 3-life allowance/optional claimer at 5-½ furlongs boasts a strong favorite in Financial Crisis (9-5), working her was through conditions, running fast while doing so, coming from a live race, a soft win, and has worked rapidly for the turnback here. Apprentice Joshua Navarro and Gary Capuano are proving a lethal combination.

But we’re going for the price on Tale Of The Fox (8-1). This veteran owns tactical speed, kick, and is well drawn outside in a small field. He has run well at Delaware previously, fits the shape of this race as the pace figures to be lively, has an underrated finisher in Rosendo and ships in fresh for Scott Lake, who excels in this short sprints.

Taking Tale Of The Fox to win at 4-1 or greater and an exacta box with Financial Crisis.

Running Totals: (687) 220-140-96 Total Dollar Return: $1,541.90 [win selections only]

Forget Yesteryear, Harve De Grace’s in Delaware Today

With Gio Ponti a dominant figure in today’s Manhattan Handicap, we’ll ship south to Delaware, where it’s Oaks day and Kentucky Oaks winner Blind Luck is a worthy even money favorite, given her accomplishments and a 7-for-11 lifetime mark.

But she might be vulnerable. Since her Herculean effort wining the Fantasy in very fast time, she hasn’t been the same filly on the Equiform performance figure scale. That leaves us two options.

No Such Word (4-1), who was third in the Fantasy came out of it with a strong placing in the Black-Eyed Susan, earning a competitive figure. She followed that up with a soft win and appears likely to move forward here.

But then neither has Havre De Grace (6-1) done anything wrong recently, in fact in her whole career. She’s never taken a backward step on performance figures.

Her development has been excellent, breaking through in her last race to be beaten a neck by No Such Word. She likely will move forward again in her third start off the layup and gets six and four pounds, respectively, from her main competition.

Taking Havre De Grace to win at 4-1 or greater and keying her first and second in exactas with her rivals here.

Running Totals: (686) 220-139-96 Total Dollar Return: $1,541.90 [win selections only]
