Longshot Mac N Mayo Something Good to Eat

With New York tracks closed for the holidays, it’s time to ship to warmer climes today for an extremely interesting feature from Tampa Bay Downs, a secondary allowances/optional for fillies and mare 3 & up at a mile and a sixteenth.

The race features a strong favorite in Omega Cat (2-1), a still developing three-year-old who broke her (turf) maiden on this course in the spring. From strong connections--Proctor and Homeister--and some excellent performance figures, she’ll be a tough out.

Having said that, this full field is crying out for a price shot and we think we’ve found just that in Mac N Mayo (12-1).

The five year old mare is winless on turf in five tries but she’s been facing some hard hitters, earns excellent figures on both turf and synthetics, and hails from a low profile barn that’s profitable with its grass runners and in allowance company. There’s an excellent chance this mare will be higher than early line odds at post time.

Taking Mac N Mayo to win at 12-1 or greater, and exacta box with Omega Cat, and as a super exotics key with Jaunty Gale (7-2), Sharp Sunrise (12-1) and Soft Music (5-1).

Running Totals: (561) 176-112-78 Total Dollar Return: $1,214.40 [win selections only]

Music to My Ears

The New York winter hiatus begins following today’s card, the last day of racing at the Big A until Dec. 26. And not much to write home for the holidays about here either; a preliminary allowances for fillies and mares sprinting six furlongs.

Unfortunately, favorite La Concerto (8-5) seems to have this group over the proverbial barrel. She’s proven consistently fastest on performance figures, goes well fresh, attracts Alan Garcia, who will make excellent use of her tactical speed, and the Asmussen NY division is rolling along at a tidy 37 percent. I concede.

Taking La Concerto to win, no price restrictions, and keying her first and second in trifectas with the super consistent Kissa Melissa (5-2), new Levine acquisition Lion’s Terms (6-1), and the fast working Indian Delight, beneath budding star David Cohen.

Running Totals: (560) 175-112-78 Total Dollar Return: $1,210.30 [win selections only]

Johnny Can Play This One Off the Break

The racetrack cliché is the place you lose it is the place you win it back. With a slight deviation on that theme, we’re taking Researcher to win today’s G3 Queens Country Handicap because the place you win it is also the place you can repeat the accomplishment.

Set for his best in his third start following a layoff, not only did he win this race last year but is a multiple winner on wet tracks, should that be the case, obviously has won on today’s surface and is clearly and consistently the fast horse on performance figures.

Researcher like to set or attend the pace at close range under these conditions and with an inside post plus the presence of Johnny Velazquez, he will be in ideal position to trip out here using either tack. And although he is the early line favorite, there are others in here sure to attract support.

Taking Researcher to win at 2-1 or greater, and keying him first and second in the exotics with surface lover Naughty New Yorker (15-1) and the very live Rodman (4-1).

Running Totals: (559) 175-111-78 Total Dollar Return: $1,210.30 [win selections only]
