Buy the Sure of Gitchee Goomie

You won’t need a search warrant to find the favorite in today’s restricted Topicount for three year old fillies going nine furlongs on Belmont’s inner turf.

Awesome Maria (3-1), a Grade 1 winner at 2, obviously developed some issues and didn’t return at 3 until Saratoga, where she won an overnight stakes on the turf in her first start in nine months, earning the best performance figure in today’s group.

After that, she finished third on dirt t Parx behind Have de Grace and Blind Luck, who need no introduction. She’ll be a tough out.

But we’re taking any value offered with Gitchee Goomie (9-2), who might not be as fast but continues to develop, showing incremental improvement.

Her last was her best, obviously, but of greater significance it came on Belmont turf where she finished third to multiple graded stakes winning filly Check The Label in the G1 Garden City.

Given sufficient recovery time, working well for her return, and reuniting with Alan Garcia, she’s poised to break through as the classy “now” filly of the group.

Taking Gitchee Goomie to win at 4-1 or greater and an exacta box with Awesome Maria.

Running Totals: (751) 243-156-101 Total Dollar Return: $1,670.70 [win selections only]

Mama Mia!

Extremely interesting field of turf runners in today’s Keeneland feature going a mile and a sixteenth that has attracted an overflow field.

While we seriously considered four of these fillies as most probable winner, we stay with the filly that appears to have the most upside, co-second favorite Wild Mia.

Improved smartly since entering the barn of Tom Proctor, her performance figures are forward looking--primed for a lifetime best--as a three-year-old she’s still developing filly and gets weight from some of her elders here.

She’s never finish worse than second in three tries at this trip on turf, winning two, and hails from an outfit having a career year, batting 31 percent at the meet and profitable with three start off layup horses.

Fully realize that Lenclud is having a rough meet but wise beyond his years on grass, he’s poised to break through under today’s conditions.

Taking Wild Mia to win at 7-2 or greater and keying her in the multiples with improving price shot Aquitaine (10-1), Firey Red (4-1), the fastest by definition and attracting Garrett Gomez, and early favorite Sweetest Song (7-2), rueturning in a profitable time frame for Carl Nafzger.

Running Totals: (750) 242-156-101 Total Dollar Return: $1,663.30 [win selections only]

Belle of the Feature

Today’s overnight stakes at Belmont Park, for fillies and mares 3 & up, the Catinca, is a beauty, a wide open event in which the 6-½ furlong hybrid distance is the make or break factor for many of these females.

Any of six horses can win this on the ‘A’ race, but we’re not going to get too fancy here and will align with the second early line choice. We’re sticking with the filly who earned at excellent performance figure at this hybrid distance, comes into this off a new pace top, and her style is well suited to the speedy race shape.

Belle Of The Hall (3-1), with Ramon Dominguez on the re-ride, is the filly in the best position to take advantage of the prevailing conditions.

The main danger is the uber sharp Catch A Thief (4-1), the fastest in performance figures and working well with Rajiv Maragh, who’s back riding in top form. She has proven rate-able in the past and will need that versatility if she is to prevail in this spot.

Taking Bell Of The Hall to win at 2-1 or greater, an exacta box with Catch A Thief, and keying her in the multiples with bounce-rebound candidate Erin Rose (6-1), sharp price shot Armageddon (12-1) and distance specialist Simply Spiteful (12-1).

Running Totals: (749) 241-156-101 Total Dollar Return: $1,657.80 [win selections only]
