Fillies Lead the Way in Graded Stakes Spa Opener

Although there are two, the first featured graded stakes of the Saratoga 148 racing season is in traditional Schuylerville for juvenile fillies sprinting 6 furlongs and you might expect, there's no shortage of gas in here.

And that should play right into the hooves of Platinum Spark (7-2). The thing about this miss that impressed in her debut was the push-button style she showed, rating comfortable off a quality leader and went on with it once Manny Franco asked her.

She's nicely posted in this spot for David Donk, coming off an excellent Belmont meet, and will make it two straight of she's up to the competition.

Well, that's why they run races...

Taking Platinum Spark to win at 3-1 or greater and key-boxing exactas with very fast Asmussen ship-in Made Me Shiver (5-2), and impressive Pletcher Monmouth-maiden-breaking Sweet Loretta (6-1).

All Dressed Up for Del Mar Opener

A huge field for the traditional Del Mar lid-lifter, the one-mile, grassy Oceanside for 3-year-olds, but a group loaded with potential.

Right now, the best of this division is in New York but SoCal can begin catching up right here. Having written that, we're going to try to keep things simple in the 14-horse herd.

We've landed on Dressed in Hermes, a course lover (2) 1-0-1 and distance specialist (5) 3-0-1. In fact, all his career wins have come at this trip.

Suited by dynamics and drawn outside with Mike Smith, he should be able to work out the trip he will need to score. He ran his fastest race on the Thoro-Graph scale here last season, and he's dropping out of the very live G3 Pennine Ridge at Belmont Park six weeks ago.

Taking Dressed in Hermes to win, no price restrictions, and boxing an exacta with potential price shot Ebadan.
