Keen Katana to Make Amends in Big A Turf Feature

State-bred fillies and mares on going a mile on the Aqueduct green and today's the day that Keen Katana (5-2) runs out of excuses.

Suffering through a troubled trip two back and mid-race moved as the pace was heating up in last, reaching the front nearing the finish post and just getting nailed in the wire's shadow.

Knowing her better should enable Johnny to time this one just right, and sharp half-mile breeze should have her at tops, the mini-turn-back can only help, and Jimmy Toner has usually enjoyed success at the Fall meet before taking his runners south. We're willing to test that theory here.

Taking Keen Katana to win, no price restrictions, and key-boxing exactas with the sharp and consistent Aesthetique (5-1), and Graceful Gal (3-1), a sharp maiden breaker vs. colts on this course Oct. 29.

Number of Selections since 2007: 1644

Number of Win-Place-Show Finishes: 495-321-255

Amount Wagered: $3,288 [to win only]

Total Dollar Return on Investment: $3,400.40

Profit to Date: $112.40

It’s Between the Brothers, Kay

Today's Aqueduct prime time event features juvenile colts going once around the park on the Big A green at a mile. While cases can be made for six of the 10 entrants, there are three most likely candidates. Of those, Zandar (5-2) is the choice.

Experienced with three career starts, his last being a flat mile on the Belmont green where he was a good second to a nice prospect in the overnight Awad Stakes.

A second turn can only help this son of Kitten's Joy, who's earned a top Energy Rating going 7F on firm turf. He placed gamely while pace and trip compromised on yielding ground last out. He should be ready for any scenario beneath the re-riding Jose Ortiz.

Taking Zandar to win, no price restrictions, and key boxing exactas with Moon River (4-1)--back on his preferred surface for Sheppard--and Glasgow Gailes (7-2), making U.S. debut with first Lasix and fresh for Motion with Irad getting the call.

Number of Selections since 2007: 1644

Number of Win-Place-Show Finishes: 495-321-255

Amount Wagered: $3,288 [to win only]

Total Dollar Return on Investment: $3,400.40

Profit to Date: $112.40

It’s a Great Race for the Irish

Today's Big A feature is a wide open allowance sprint for filly and mares at the hybrid 6-1/2 furlong trip boiling down to a battle between the Irish; the Sweepstakes filly and the Whisper filly. Which will be the luckiest? Not sure until the latch is sprung but we do believe that at post time, Irish Whisper (6-1) will offer the better value. That's the only way we can split them.

The state-bred Iroquois wasn't the easiest return spot coming off a six month layup but when you're forced to check inside losing all chance, well, the only hope is that you get something, anything, out of the effort.

Well, Jose Ortiz is willing to take the re-ride and Jeremiah Englehart is 21% effective in LAY-2 scenarios, positive signs. Adding a sharp subsequent blowout for her second start, she returns to the surface and trip of her lifetime best Energy Rating and the price should be fair.

Taking Irish Whisper to win at 5-1 or greater, an exacta box with Irish Sweepstakes (5-1), and adding Ave's Halo (15-1) and Atlantic's Smile (6-1) to the super-exotics mix.

Number of Selections since 2007: 1643

Number of Win-Place-Show Finishes: 494-321-255

Amount Wagered: $3,286 [to win only]

Total Dollar Return on Investment: $3,382.80

Profit to Date: $96.80
