Chalk Alert

Not an exciting first stakes of Saratoga 146, the Grade 2 Schuylerville which has attracted a field of five juvenile fillies.

How is one to stop Fashion Alert? You might be able to; I can't.

Not only is this Pletcher-Velazquez team production the fastest on paper, by a wide margin, but her dominating win was scored in Belmont's Astoria Stakes. Not a bad way to start a career.

She has early speed, good position outside in this small field and Johnny can play if off the break any way he chooses.

Taking Fashion Alert to win, no price restrictions, and a cold triple completed by Tulira's Star and Take Charge Brandi (6-1).

Number of Selections since 2007: 1567

Number of Win-Place-Show Finishers: 477-302-242

Amount Wagered: $3,134 [to win only]

Total Dollar Return on Investment: $3,221.50

Profit to Date: $87.50

International Star Could Prove Well Named

The final stakes on the final day of the 2014 Belmont spring-summer meet is the Rockville Center for state-bred 2-year-olds featuring an exciting prospect named International Star (7-5).

His debut was ultra impressive, drawing off to win by a short pole in very fast time with something in reserve. The bad news is that was grass and this is dirt. However, it gave him experience overall and at the 6 furlong trip.

While trainer Mike Michael is noted for his turf runner-success for the Ramseys, the owner is known to be aggressive when he thinks he has the goods and just might here. And Maker is 22% successful going turf to dirt.

Taking International Star to win, no price restrictions, and key-boxing the exacta with fast working and experienced Bustin It and preciously bred first-timer Elusive New Yorker.

Number of Selections since 2007: 1566

Number of Win-Place-Show Finishers: 477-301-242

Amount Wagered: $3,132 [to win only]

Total Dollar Return on Investment: $3,221.50

Profit to Date: $89.50

Winning’s Just Grand

The Saturday getaway feature at Belmont is the G2 Bowling Green for older turf marathoners going a mile and a half and while we use jockeys to break ties when between two horses, we seldom take one on the presence of a rider along. And so we're betting that Joel Rosario's long-distance stakes roll will continue.

Grandeur (6-5) has kept Grade 1 company in both U.S. starts and has run well in each, including his last where he lost contact with the field early and rallied strongly but far too late. We believe his recent blowout will have him sharper for today's event, the distance and notch drop will help and, oh, yes, this is first-time Rosario.

Taking Grandeur to win, no price restrictions, boxing exacta with Boisterous (3-1), and adding Reflecting (8-1) and Hangover Kid (5-1) to the super-exotics mix.

Number of Selections since 2007: 1565

Number of Win-Place-Show Finishers: 477-300-242

Amount Wagered: $3,130 [to win only]

Total Dollar Return on Investment: $3,221.50

Profit to Date: $91.50
