Same Story, Different Day

Taking a page from yesterday's feature race book, trainer Mike Hushion has entered another uncoupled pair, each having a big chance in today's restricted stakes for state-bred sprinting going 6-1/2 furlongs.

There is a ton of speed entered in this compact field, leaving us little choice but to refer to the Handicapping 101 handbook, as we narrowed our choices to either Night Maneuver (7-2) or Amberjack (2-1). We're erring on the side of Hushion with the latter.

While the ultimate goal might be a longer contest upstate, this 4YO won here off a layup at 3 and he's been in steady training since April with this being his last chance to improve his perfect Big Sandy slate to 3-for-3 with Junior Alvarado, who won the Mike Lee here last June.

Taking Amberback to win at 3-1 or greater and an exacta box with Belmont lover Night Maneuver and very speedy stablemate I'm Stoked (5-2).

Number of Selections since 2007: 1564

Number of Win-Place-Show Finishers: 477-300-241

Amount Wagered: $3,128 [to win only]

Total Dollar Return on Investment: $3,221.50

Profit to Date: $93.50

Improvement Expected

Trainer Mike Hushion has entered an uncoupled pair in today's Belmont feature, an NX1 on the main track going a mile, and both figure to improve in their second starts this barn.

We're taking Scarly Charly who warmed up for this tracking Palace Malice in the Met Mile before tiring, but was beaten only 8 lengths after shipping East from SA following a maiden win.

Can you say ambitious spot?

Today he returns five weeks fresh, drops to his proper level, and prepped for this with 5F in 59 3/5, a worked termed breezing. Hushion gives the return call to Manuel Franco.

Taking Scarly Charly to win, no price restrictions, and an exacta box with sharp Servis ship-in Box Office.

Number of Selections since 2007: 1563

Number of Win-Place-Show Finishers: 476-300-241

Amount Wagered: $3,126 [to win only]

Total Dollar Return on Investment: $3,218.00

Profit to Date: $92.00

Need Value in Highly Contentious Belmont Feature

Today's Belmont turf feature, an NX3-optional claimer at one mile is a skull-buster filled with classy hard hitters. We're looking for value and hoping to trip-out here, given the speedy dynamics. Both Lochte (3-1) and Plainview (4-1) are logical choices, each showing class going today's trip. However, a contested pace and position could prove obstacles at a short price.

We find Fredericksburg (6-1) very interesting. Working well for Michael Matz at his Fair Hill base, 4YO owns tactical speed, kick and an inside draw, and Alex Solis is excellent working out trips, especially with this type of runner. Value seems assured in a very contentious heat.

Taking Fredericksburg to win at early line odds or greater, an exacta box with class dropping LAY-3 proposition Upgrade (6-1), adding both favorites and price shot Red Rifle (10-1)--showed promise in lone turf start over course at 3--to the super-exotics mix.

Number of Selections since 2007: 1563

Amount Wagered: $3,126 [to win only]
