It’s Two…Two Tips in One

With today's Arkansas Derby virtually conceded to American Pharoah at extremely short odds, the Coolmore Lexington is a better betting alternative, as is the G3 Top Flight at the Big A. So, owing to yesterday's scratch, a bonus Saturday selection.

With Bob Baffert and Todd Pletcher shipping in a couple of promising, albeit non-Derby-starting 3YOs, and the highly regarded Donworth skipping an allowance spot Thursday in favor of this, chances are good there will be some value offered on early line favorite Divining Rod.

Battle test in two graded stakes at Tampa Bay, his experience, ability to compete at this level, and a rider switch to Keeneland-savvy Julien Leparoux, it may be possible to get the posted early line odds of 5-2 at post time.

We're taking Divining Rod to win, no price restrictions, a boxed exacta with Donworth, and adding Fame and Power and Comfort to the super-exotics mix.

At the Big A, House Rules is 6-5 on the early line to win the mile and an eighth G3 Top Flight. We're taking Got Lucky (4-1), coming off a New Pace Top and wide trip in the Rampart after winning her prior, exiting that race with better Energy Ratings than the favorite who's dropping out of G2 Royal Delta.

Today she returns to the Big A where, at 2, she was narrowly beaten in the 9F Demoiselle.

Taking Got Lucky to win at 3-1 or greater and an exacta box with House Rules.

Reward Should Be Worth the Risque

Today's Big A feature presents a rare opportunity, a chance to find rare value in a short field, such is the competitive nature of the NW2/optional sprint at the hybrid distance of 6-1/2 furlongs.

Wavell Avenue is a worthy favorite. Freshened, the Chad Brown filly returns to her winning surface and trip with the conditioning to get it done at this tricky trip.

But it's Risqué Reality who intrigues more. Much more likely to produce value, Peter Pugh's miss also returns to a winning distance and surface.

In fact, she's never been beaten on the main track here, reunites with winning partner Cornelio Velasquez, and comes into this off a New Pace Top.

Taking Risqué Reality to win, no price restrictions, and an exacta box with Wavell Avenue.

Sometimes, You Just Gotta’ Believe

In today's Keeneland feature for 3YOs, must admit that Donworth is not a great bet--but just might be a great horse one day.

I'm only being half-facetious here; check out the replay of his extremely well meant debut for yourself. It was the kind of trip that will beat 99 of 100 horses.

His Pricci Energy Rating was highly competitive, too, and today's added distance and change of scenery will not be a deterrent, unless his debut was a complete mirage. Rather, we think it might be the tip of a rather large iceberg.

Taking Donworth to win, no price restrictions, and key-boxing in multiples with Pioneerof the West and Bluff, both dropping from recent stakes
incursions, and another impressive maiden breaker, Outlash.

Number of Win and Place Finishes: 519-331

Amount Wagered: $3,442 [to win only]
