Double Down Just One More Time

Damn, there sure are some fast horses in today's feature from Belmont, an N3X for older going six furlongs. The two favorites have the most talent but obviously have their issues; Bakken (7-5) only shows up from time to time and Catron (2-1) is coming off a 414-day layup.

We're not willing to take a short price in today's 7-horse match-up.

Instead, we're throwing a little deeper with Doubledown Again (6-1) whose style fits the speedy race shape, hails from the barn of Michelle Nevin, who's shed is heating up again, and has recency in his corner, an attribute that many of today's runners lack. Gelded Rockport Harbor 5YO gets along very well with Jose Ortiz, who takes the return call here.

Taking Doubledown Again to win at 4-1 or greater, key-boxing exactas with the favorites, and adding price shot Scarly Charly (10-1) to the super-exotics mix.

Getting Down on the Longer Brown

Today's Belmont Park feature unfortunately will be a five-horse field after the Main Track Only horses, of which there are four out of nine, are withdrawn and as far as we're concerned Chad Brown has only himself to beat.

The logical favorite of the two is the overnight choice, Hellenistic (8-5). Entered in a N3X here, she is getting class relief and Castellano for her return to allowance company. But we're going to take her uncoupled mate, Water Hole (7-2).

While the favorite's past performances are more compelling, she is more likely to be using today's event as a bridge race, whereas Water Hole, making her second U.S. start after being out-posted in a G2 at Churchill, looks like she will be more suited to today's trip and lack of early speed signed on.

Just not willing to accept a short price in this trappy-looking turf route. Taking Water Hole to win at 5-2 or greater and an exacta box with her mate.

Number of Selections since 2007: 1763

Number of Win and Place Finishes: 530-336

Amount Wagered: $3,526 [to win only]

Total Dollar Return on Investment: $3,631.70

Farro Turfer Should Dominate Parx Feature

The feature race from Parx Racing, today's eighth, is a preliminary allowances on the turf and it's difficult to pace the favorite in this heat. Noreen (5-2) was used on the pace vs. much tougher last time out at Belmont but now ships into Bensalem for the Farro/Ortega team, 22% this year and the barn a profitable 24% effective second time off the claim.

Dam’s only foal was a turf winner and the tactical speedster should make amends quickly in a very logical spot.

Taking Noreen to win, no price restrictions.
