Taking Benny’s Full Brother, Bernie

Today's Gulstream feature is a turf sprint for newly turned 3-year-olds and it's very difficult getting past the early line favorite, Bernie the Jet (5-2). When last seen, his surface debut earlier this meet, he finished like a runaway train and passed all but one of his rivals.

With normal improvement, good spacing, sufficient speed signed on and leading rider Javier Castellano in the boot, we can't look passed him.

Taking Bernie the Jet to win, no price restrictions, and key boxing him in the multiples first and second with Skylander (4-1), Happy Fella (5-1) and price shot, Higd Command (8-1).

I’m with you JP, but I’m scared of Skylander (there can be only one). Will go straight 78 here for all the marbles. The whole nine yards, shooting match, shabang, etc, etc., etc.

You had the right idea all along but fell into the same trap as I did.

Of course, checking twice midway of a 5 furlong turf race is not usually a path to riches.

If I didn’t know what an honest game this is, I would have said the “fix” was in, but I have always had a love/hate relationship with 5 furlong and 1-1/2 mile races. Skylander, there can be only one.
