I's not often we're excited to bet on a horse that's 7-5 on the early line and heading west to Santa Anita to do so (I have a day job back East) but when a hyped favorite is 4-5 and likely to be as low as 2-5 at post time, you've got to take the second favorite at quoted odds--especially if you believe it has a big edge in today's second race. And we think that's the case with Consulado (7-5).

After debuting with an opening good-figure Compression Line at Hollywood Park, it returned on dirt at Santa Anita with a competitive figure win, coming in here off a New Pace Top. Indeed, it's stretching out to one mile today but the Mike Puype runner owns enough pedigree for the task and figures to dominate the early pace beneath the aggressive David Flores.

The Bob Baffert trained Fed Biz is the worthy favorite and a well regarded Triple Crown contender. But we're betting, once again, that speed will kill.
