Ron The Greek finished very well behind impressive Mucho Macho Man in Sunshine Millions Classic; working well on deep Payson Park surface, nicely weighted and drawn, and returns with good spacing; 9-2 would be fair odds.
Setsuko missed by a nose in last year’s roughhouse Big ‘Cap; carefully pointed to this and owns good-figure 10F effort, likely moves forward off latest. Ultimate Eagle is much improved and returns off lifetime best.
Holladay Road is a three-time SA winner for Canani and attracts Bejarano; in here off top pace figure and sharp work.
Taking Ron The Greek to win at 9-2 or greater and key boxing him first and second with his rivals here.
Running Totals: (1035) 320-203-149 Total Dollar Return: $2,213.00 [win selections only]

One could take the position that 2-Ultimate Eagle, who owns an admirble in-the-money record, pulled a freakazoid in last, or, has he simply reached the pinnacle of his ability. 9-Setsuko did not fool anybody in his return, and was probably a short horse, a dangerous foe indeed. But, and isn’t there always a but? In order to play my selection, you must be of the persuasion that there are innumerable reasons why a horse does not run to his potential in any given situation, and must also realize that one bad performances does not a regressive pattern make. I’m going with 11-Prayer for Relief, and I may be doing just that when they turn for home, but the price will be right for “Whitey” and this well-traveled, always well-placed thoroughbred.
11-Prayer for Relief (5.71)
9-Setsuko (8.35)
2-Ultimate Eagle (10.15)

In the Las Virgenes Stakes, 7-Reneesgotzip is an understatement, and is hard to look past, pummels these virgins. Use with 2-Charm the Maker and 4-Killer Graces and call it a day.

switching coasts...how about the full field for the Gotham. I guess Hanson didn’t scare away too many aspirants. He will be over bet, as will My Adonis and Pletcher’s two. I’m taking a stab with Pretension, out of the mighty Chris Grove barn. Has improved every start, ran well over the surface, and will be sitting right off the pace. He will obviously have to take a step forward off his last (as will 11 out of the 13 entrants), and may bounce--coming back in 3 weeks, but at 20-1 ML, the price is right!
