The big race of the day of course takes place in Hot Springs. It's the Grade 2 Rebel Stakes that has drawn a very salty field of eight three year olds. We think perhaps any of five horses can win this, a sixth with a puncher's chance.

The deserving favorite is, of course, Tapiture (9-5), who dominated in the Southwest Stakes. It was a lifetime best and beneath 122 pounds he spots weight to all. We're looking for a minor upset.

Strong Mandate (2-1) had a very tough, wide trip behind in the favorite in that race and was up against it with a very wide draw on a speedy, inside-favoring Santa Anita strip.

What peaks our interest off that first rate placing behind Tapiture is the fact he came back to work a bullet half mile only eight days after the race. Guess he came out of his season's debut in top form.

Taking Strong Mandate to win at 2-1 or greater, exacta key boxes with the favorite and impressive San Vicente winner Kobe's Back (7-2), and adding Ride On Curlin (12-1), Street Strategy (8-1) and Hoppertunity (10-1) to the super-exotics mix.
