The Transylvania Stakes is a Grade 3 event with a $100,000 purse and if State Of Play (3-1) can take down the $60,000 winner’s share, he has a puncher’s chance to make the Derby field--depending on the results of Saturday’s traditional Derby preps, of course.
That’s a lot of ifs but this is why they run the races.
The Graham Motion colt has more going for it in this spot than just incentive. For one thing, he’s already a graded stakes winner on the surface, winning the G2 With Anticipation at Saratoga last out.
Further, he has continued to develop on the Equiform scale and his tactical speed, presence of Johnny Velazquez and the pole can only help matters here. The competitive nature of the field should ensure the likelihood of attaining fair odds.
Taking State of Play to win at 5-2 or greater and keying him in multiples with second off the layup Monastic (5-2), the speedy Silver Max (7-2) and super sharp Icon Ike (7-2).
Running Totals: (1058) 326-207-155 Total Dollar Return: $2,248.60 [win selections only ]

I’m a sucker for speed, among other things, and will have to opt for 6-Silver Max, who blew a hole in the wind last out, knows only one way to run, and has a nice little record, and will be using only with your horse 1-State of Play. In front as far as he goes. Hope he give it his max today.
To all have a great Keeeeeeneeelannnnnnd meet!!!!!
