Artest (3-1) has. Not only is he reuniting with winning rider Johnny V. but he's turning back to a favorite scenario, a turf sprint, a dynamic in which he's 2-for-2. Artest held form from a wide post going a mile at Saratoga last out and should have gained additional conditioning.
Taking Artest to win at 5-2 or greater and key boxing him in exactas with the favorite and with fast working Manly (6-1), in with pole position and Rosario.
Running Totals: (1163) 359-225-174 Total Dollar Return: $2,461.30 [win selections only]

3-Sum of the Parts, in this situation, will be difficult for me to stand against, despite the short price. Has been a real he-man since the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Sprint last year, and has seen more of this country than most people, and would probably run well on the moon. If you’re playing would have to suggest on top only with 2-Banner Bill and 7-Artest, then buy yourself 2 gallons of gas ($8.00 exacta) with the winnings. By the way Mr. Amoss, I love your cookies and your horses.
3-Sum of the Parts (3.87)
2-Banner Bill (6.44)
7-Artest (7.24)

My interest today is in the 8th, 5-Winter Now, who was claimed from that vitamin water vendor. He’s got the money to drop them, and not care if he loses them. Has speed, will travel. Can’t believe I’ll get 12-1 though.

Preeeeeeeeeeeeeech,
Artest=World Peace....Nice one! I finally got it after a cup of java. Have to box with Sportswriter(8-1) for a hunch saver, for magic man Rudy R and the famous jock TBA. Might even be able to fill the tank with gas if I win.
Just for your information folks ... the race honors Groovy, an American Thoroughbred Champion sprinter known for his love of jelly donuts! Groovy is the last horse to break the 130 BSF, having accomplished that milestone in his first two starts of 1987. In the Roseben Handicap at Aqueduct Racetrack he earned a 131 rating and then a 134 in the True North Handicap! You got it, before the Lasix era. So why is this a turf race? and why is the feature the 5th race today with no forecast for rain? only NYRA knows! Time for a jelly donut and second cup of coffee.

Hey Cat, I agree to wondering why this would be a turf sprint. Anyway, I remember being at
Belmont and Andy Beyer was introduced as Harvey Pack’s guest that day. Andy’s first words were NO GROOVY-who of course went on that day to wire the field as usual! Oh well, Andy’s no Preeeech!

Naming races never was an art form. Here Groovy was one of the fastest sprinters of all time--on dirt.
And let’s not forget the Red Smith Turf Handicap at Belmont Park, named for the great sportswriter who loved the game but hated grass racing.
Go figure.

Hey HH, good story, love Harvey’s sense of humor! Hard to argue about Beyer who is smarter than all of us for having his BSF’s in the DRF, they probably paid him a ton of dough re mi. You’re right he’s no Preach in my book when it comes to handicapping. As Preach says, tough game this! Time for another jelly donut!
