It might not be graded, but the race has the magic name of Derby, and it emanates from Gulfstream Park--no, not the Florida Derby but the Gulfstream Park Derby for brand-newly turned 3-year-olds.

It's a very competitive one-turn mile that in which four of the nine have peaked our interest. We're going to side with Wildcat Red (5-1), which has never finished behind a rival in three lifetime starts--although he lost his last courtesy of the stewards.

All is victories have come over today's surface, he owns enough bottom-side pedigree to get the added furlong and a half, and attracts the stronger, hot-riding Paco Lopez. His style fits the speedy race shape and leave it to Paco to save ground until ready. He's worked rapidly this month in preparation and trainer Garaffalo is effective with this type of spacing and first time going long.

Taking Wildcat Red to win at 7-2 or greater, boxing the exacta with solid favorite Best Plan Yet (5-2), and adding the sharp East Hall (10-1) and General a Rod (6-1) to the super-exotic mix.
