Perhaps the real New York racing season is back after all. Today's mid-week feature is a basic preliminary allowances for three-year-olds and up going one mile. But half the field, including two recent maiden winners, appear to be budding stakes runners with continued development. A great race, and we're going for the gusto.

In The Woods, scratched from last Saturday's Bay Shore, will vie for favoritism with another impressive recent maiden breaker, Vitruvius. They are fast, but their figures are no faster than three other horses in the race. They will offer little value because of their obvious upside potential and powerful connections.

Our choice, Spiriton, is perhaps the sixth fastest horse. But he is more predictable in terms of forward-moving ability for today's race. Trainer Mike Hushion is 24% efficient when riding Channing Hill, and the team is showing a considerable flat-bet profit. Additionally, Hushion is a profitable 22% when stretching to a distance off two consecutive sprints.

Spiriton has tactical speed, an experience edge over his promising rivals, has been the distance, and shows three brilliant workouts since his last race. He should sit just behind the speed and attempt to kick for home at a big price.

We're making a trifecta box using the three horses named. We're taking an exacta key box of Spiriton first and second with In The Woods and Vitruvius. And we're betting Spiriton across-the-board at odds of 8-1 or greater.
