The Aqueduct main track opens today with a "non-winners of 2 lifetime" sprint for 3-year-olds & up going six furlongs. It figures a two-horse race between likely favorites Memphis Mon and Abraaj. Memphis Mon is the fastest horse on figures and will probably be the public's choice, especially considering Jimmy Jerkens 24% record with horses making their second start off a layoff. But that's a problem here. He's coming back on short rest--11 days--and looms a bounce candidate. Abraaj, meanwhile, is only a little more than a length slower but has has been away nearly six weeks and owns the better development pattern; not having improved his recent figures as dramatically as Memphis Mon. Meaning the Kiaran McLaughlin trainee has a bit more upside potential. Not only did the barn have itself a pretty good weekend but it's been winning at a 25% rate the last three months. It is 31% efficient when using Alan Garcia, an underrated position-conscious race-rider. We're taking Abraaj to win, and an exacta box with Memphis Mon. It's the smart percentage play that doesn't figure to make us a fortune, however.
