Another day, another turf sprint feature and, hopefully a different result. This is a preliminary allowances for three-year-olds and up at 7 furlongs. Three horses of interest, from the inside out, are West of Gibraltar (9-2), Diamond Ella (10-1) and Applauded (3-1).

Applauded is a worthy favorite. She wasn’t beaten all that badly in a Group 2 as a European juvenile, had had her difficulties in her U.S. debut, the Calder Oaks, now turns back, drops and switches to Garrett Gomez. The blinkers are back on for this.

West of Gibraltar is coming off a turf decline line with more than competitive back figures. She has recent conditioning, is working well and has a maturity edge as the in-form four-year-old. She has tactical speed and can kick.

Diamondrella is interesting because she earned very good performance figures at two and returns with added maturity in her first start for Angel Penna Jr., a turf and layoff ace. She’s trained purposefully for this and attracts the position conscious Rajiv Maragh. She is another meeting younger rivals here.

Taking West of Gibraltar to win at 3-1 or greater and keying her in exacta boxes first and second with Applauded and Diamondrella.

Running Totals: (208) 66-44-24. Total Dollar Return: $409.00 [win selections only]
