The feature today isn't the race with an enhanced state-bred purse, but rather the third race, a "non-winners of 3 optional claiming."

Three horses are making their returns from a layup and each has the right to be the best horse; either via their accomplishments or the company they kept. And unless I miss my guess, Spa City Fever, the winner of a moderately run mile after easily controlling the pace, looks like the filler so that this race could be carded with five.

Only one, Farhaan (3-1) has that "today's the day" look. Totally eliminated at the start of his last, he still was able to make up ground while the pace was heating up dramatically. It's a bit of a quick turnaround for Kiaran's barn, but the thinking is that his last did not take much out of him at all. Owning a sharp breeze for return, he deserves this chance.

Taking Farhaan to win, no price restrictions, and key boxing him with two classy returnees, Johannesburg Smile (2-1) and Honorable Dillon (5-2).
