The biggest of today’s two Belmont Park features is the G2 $350,000 Suburban Handicap and if we thought we had a good chance to beat Flat Out (1-1) we’d take that chance. Just can't for some strong reasons.

The Horse for Course (5) 4-0-1 was a very good third in the rapidly run Met Mile after reaching down deep to win in the G3 Westchester at distances that likely are shorter than his preferred route.

The Whitney at Saratoga next month would be a more inviting target but the horse is training so well Bill Mott has said he can’t hold him on the ground that long. Whatever the measure, his figures are superior.

And he should handle the “highweight” assignment of 119 pounds, giving a pound to 2012 Travers winning Alpha (5-1) and Last Gunfighter (2-1), seeking his seventh straight score.

Handicap racing? I love it, but if this is the way it's going to be played, pull the plug already.

Taking Flat Out to win, no price restrictions, an exacta box with Alpha, and sprinkling Last Gunfighter into the trifecta.
