There are two overnight stakes on today's card, each featuring a potential odds-on favorite. But we're not intimidated, we're going to play a little game of beat the champ.

Coming off the bench after suffering an injury in the Florida Derby, juvenile champion Shanghai Bobby (1-2) is set to renew his career with a possible eye on the BC Dirt Mile and beyond. But while he enjoys a significant class edge, 6-1/2F is a tough distance to return from a long layup when not wound 100 percent.

Tenango (4-1) has a recency edge, is extremely sharp, tactically equipped and nicely drawn outside to pounce when ready. He will run his race. Whether that's good enough, I'm willing to pay to find out.

Taking Tenango to win at 3-1 or greater and keying him in exactas with the champ and the hybrid-distance loving Slan Abhaile (6-1).
