Shhh, Want a Good Thing at Tampa?

Today’s feature race brings us to Northern Florida for a preliminary allowances on the grass for older fillies and mares going nine furlongs.

The logical and worthy top contenders are Doctor Carina (3-1), shipping in for Tampa- prolific Tom Proctor and C C Cerada (9-2), from the highly productive grass barn of Chris Block beneath Victor Lebron, profitable with his turf mounts here.

But the interesting filly providing an excellent chance for a score is Whisperer (15-1), from the crafty barn of Joan Scott.

Second in her key race turf debut on this ground more than a year ago, she returned off a long layup recently to take an honestly run dirt event. Subsequently, she’s had three useful works since and the turf meant filly is also strongly bred for the stretchout to a mile and an eighth.

Phil Teator takes the re-ride off the maiden score and the rail draw will enable him to be in this one throughout given the perceived lack of strong pace pressure. Ground-saving plus reasonable fractions and stout pedigree signal potential upset.

Taking Whisperer to win at 8-1 or greater and keying her first and second in the multiples with her listed rivals here.

Running Totals: (601) 187-123-82 Total Dollar Return: $1,298.70 [win selections only]

Deposit Beats a Withdrawal Every Time

The best part of any prestigious race meet is the atypical preliminary allowances y0u come across that’s just so chock full of potential, which describes today’s eighth race at Gulfstream Park for 3 year old fillies going 6-½ furlongs.

There’s early favorite Golden Galleon (7-2) making her first start for former Pletcher assistant Anthony Sciametta Jr. She was impressive, and fast, winning her debut at Aqueduct in December.

Then there’s Successful Song (4-1), dropping down and turning back for Eddie Plesa Jr. Add to that the talented Canadian based Sulis (10-1), making her season’s debut off a fast score in her lone start at 2.

And, finally, Lavender’s Spirit (15-1), turning back into a sprint with a tad of back class and from a barn 31 percent efficient in this scenario.

But it’s Deposit Only (6-1) that interests most. She’s won 2 of 4, losing only when she met the streaking hard hitting stakes filly, Diva Delite at 7 furlongs, and last out when she steadied out of the race on the turn but came on very gamely to finish third in her surface debut.

The extra half-furlong is going to help here and her recent half-mile work at Calder termed breezing will have her on edge, putting her in this one right from the jump along the inside. Elvis Trujillo takes the re-ride.

Taking Deposit Only to win at 5-1 or greater and keying her first and second in all multiple pools with her rivals here.

Running Totals: (600) 187-122-82 Total Dollar Return: $1,298.70 [win selections only]

Come to Poppa

Clearly, Poppa’s Pick (6-1) is happy to be back in New York on this surface. In today’s contentious allowance sprint, he’s nicely drawn outside to take advantage of the much improved early speed he demonstrated last out.

With a highly competitive figure to race back to over this course from last March, a strong effort is expected. Channing Hill can be quietly aggressive under these circumstances and that gives him options here.

Taking the value offered with the Asmussen trainee to win at 4-1 of greater and keying him in the multiples first and second with the in-form Ricoriatoa (2-1) and Charlott Humor (5-2), each coming out of a live race.

Running Totals: (599) 187-121-82 Total Dollar Return: $1,298.70 [win selections only]
