I Must Be Trippin’

Yet another turf feature at Gulfstream, this a classified allowances-optional claimer for fillies and mares sprinting five furlongs. Two are especially interesting; Bella Moneta (7-2), back in the barn of 40% Canani, and Trippi’s Sailor (12-1), looking to rebound from a recent off-the-turfer after earning a career best figure.

Not only is the latter among the fastest on the performance figure scale, won her only start on this turf course, and a three-time winner at the distance. More than enough recovery time has passed since her career-best figure. Trainer Peter Gulyas is batting 25% at the meet and the switch to Javier Castellano also rings positive.

Taking Trippi’s Sailor to win at 6-1 or greater and exacta boxes with Bella Moneta and price shot Myakka (12-1)..

Running Totals: (815) 258-169-113 Total Dollar Return: $1,787.90 [win selections only]

Mining for Gold

Today’s Gulfstream feature, showing allowance fillies and mares going a mile and a sixteenth on the turf course, presents a rare opportunity; backing a horse that has a bit more than a puncher’s chance to score at a big price.

At least, that’s the promise with Miner’s Tune, rated at 20-1 on the early line.

Her record is modest, hence the odds, but her only win came for this trainer on this course and at this distance. Further, her two best performance figures were earned on this course, the other at this distance.

The only unknown is the rider as Paco Lopez is named. Oh how I wish, but he’ll be out some time with a broken elbow suffered in the horrific spill that resulted in Eibar Coa fracturing his C-4 vertebrae.

Taking Miner’s Tune to win at 15-1 or greater and keying her in all money positions with Cosset (6-1), Suroof (7-2) and Blue Angel (4-1).

Running Totals: (814) 258-169-113 Total Dollar Return: $1,787.90 [win selections only]
