Going Rogue

Today’s turf feature at Gulfstream, a “three other than” optional claimer has drawn a strong a diverse field in various stages of their form cycle, yielding so many potential ways to go.

We will opt on the side of horses for a course and who is racing in raging from right now. The only problem is that Rogue Victory (6-1) is coming back on less than two weeks rest.

But once again there appears to be enough pace to set things up nicely for his late kick, which he demonstrated last out. If Castellano elects, he could also gain some decent early position to make his job that much easier. Then it will be up to the rider to split the seam.

Taking Rogue Victory to win and place at 9-2 or greater.

Running Totals: (794) 256-164-108 Total Dollar Return: $1,777.50 [win selections only] {Wednesday results not included}

Marching Toward the Circle at Gulfstream

When I look at the development pattern of Harrods Creek and then check to see who the connections are, it was no surprise to learn that Bill Mott was calling the shots. Mott’s horses develop incrementally, especially his turf horses.

In today’s mile and a half turf feature at Gulfstream Park, it’s amazing that the early line favorite hasn’t even taken a backward step on performance figures throughout his entire turf career, a virtual impossibility.

Harrods Creek is not even the fastest on figures but between the distance and connections, he’s going to be a tough out despite his ordinary record in this preliminary allowances.

Taking Harrods Creek to win at 2-1 or greater, boxing him first in exactas with nicely developing Zhivago (8-1)

Running Totals: (794) 256-164-108 Total Dollar Return: $1,777.50 [win selections only]

Oh Suzzona, Won’t You Try For Me?

Today’s Gulfstream feature is a beauty, a very competitive five furlong turf sprint for classified allowance fillies. Races like these demand a specialist, of course, and what filly could be more special than Suzzona (3-1).

This seven year old mare is a wonder, if not, what would you call a mare with a line like this: (21) 12-4-3? I would call her the most probable winner. A sharp recent winner, she figures to like this course even better than Tampa’s, as today’s figures to be firmer ground.

Further, she owns tactical speed, and kick, and her regular rider comes down from the Bay as part of the package. It’s certainly a sign of confidence from Ben Feliciano, who brought her back to her Laurel base after her latest score only to send her south once again. Once more time.

Taking Suzzona to win at 5-2 or greater and keying her first and second in multiples with Midst (4-1), Mimi’s Bling and Trippi’s Sailor (8-1).

Running Totals: (793) 256-164-108 Total Dollar Return: $1,777.50 [win selections only]
