Oh Canada (Hopefully the Right One)

An eclectic renewal of the Saratoga Special with only one of the six entrants having run in New York last time out. There are many ways to go, the first of which would seem to try to defeat Stat (7-5) a maiden winner at Belmont for Todd Pletcher July 9 and figures to be overbet here.

For his part, Indian Evening (5-1) was more impressive with strong rally maiden score in debut at Woodbine; has an excellent pedigree, and purposeful works for a barn adept with graded stakes performers and profitable when going synthetic to dirt.

Taking Indian Evening to win at 7-2 or greater, key boxing him in multiples with Italo (10-1), who broke his maiden at Longchamp then out of his element in Ascot Group 2, and Banner Bill (6-1), 3-for-3 including two Woodbine stakes.

Running Totals: (910) 287-184-126 Total Dollar Return: $1,984.00 [win selections only]

Experience Is the Best Reason

Today’s feature in the G2 Adirondack for juvenile fillies looming a two-horse affair between My Miss Aurelia (6-5) and Millionreasonswhy (5-2). We disagree with the oddsmaker in this spot and I can think of several reasons.

First of all, the latter is a Grade 2 stakes winner, compared to the favorite who won her only start, albeit over today’s racetrack. But if projected rains soak the old course, Millionreasonswhy’s debut win came over a sealed sloppy track. And finally, our choice owns a win at today’s distance.

Taking Millionreasonswhy to win at 8-5 or greater and key boxing the choice in multiples with the favorite and Funny Proposition who owns high early speed and bred both sides for wet footing.

Running Totals: (908) 287-183-126 Total Dollar Return: $1,976.80 [win selections only] {Saturday‘s Results Not Included}

Winchester Sword Dancer’s Big Gun

Today’s Saratoga feature is the Grade 1 Sword Dancer for turf males 3 & up going a three-turn mile and a half. The cliché in these types of events is “class on the grass,” and that would be Winchester, the lukewarm early favorite at 5-2.

With stablemate Gio Ponti looking to redeem his placing in the Arlington Million, Christophe Clement still has a bullet to fire here. Ironically, Winchester prepped in the Stars and Stripes on the Arlington Polytrack, a race he appeared to need badly.

Winchester owns the best performance figures at the trip, winning twice at the distance including the G1 Turf Classic last fall. Regular rider Cornelio Velasquez is in the boot.

Taking Winchester to win at 8-5 or greater and key boxing him in the multiples with improving 4-year-old Boisterous (4-1) from the white hot McGaughey barn and price shot Al Khali (15-1)--firm turf please, half of the uncoupled Mott entry.

Running Totals: (908) 287-183-126 Total Dollar Return: $1,976.80 [win selections only]
