A Wink Gets the Nod

Today’s Parx feature, a non-winners of 3 other-than/optional claimer, is a highly competitive sprint going the hybrid distance of 6-½ furlongs.

Given his “ownership” of this circuit, Todd Got Even (7-2) is a worthy early line favorite with Joe Bravo shipping over for the ride. Based on performance figures, he’s improved since Scott Volk took over his training, and he’s 3-for-7 with horses shipping back to the trainer’s Parx base. He will be a tough out.

But we’re going for the value offered with improving 5-year-old Wink At The Girls (12-1). A four-time winner on this surface, a winner at this distance, he earned his lifetime best at today’s hybrid route and on a wet surface. And considering that Scott Lake is a profitable 23 percent with his turnback and that he attracts perennial Parx leader Frankie Pennington, the price seems too good to pass up.

Taking Wink At The Girls to win at 10-1 or greater, using him in an exacta with Todd Got Even, and in all money positions with the latter, surface lover Movin Out (5-1,) and improving 4-year-old Middle Bank (12-1).

Speed Kills

No one would be surprised if the very fast Sara Louise (2-1) turned out to be the post time favorite to win the G2 Gallant Bloom, especially considering she’s fastest on performance figures and earned that fast-track figure when fresh. And she’s been working up a storm.

But since entering the Bob Baffert shed and picking up Martin Garcia, under whom she’s 3-for-3, Rapport is simply much improved and possesses dominant early speed.

Super-sharp 3-year-old never has been as good as she is right now, she’s beaten her elders twice and won her only start at today’s hybrid distance. None one seems capable of seriously testing her early. A bullet away from the barrier, she’s been very well managed by Baffert and rates to continue her winning ways.

Taking Rapport to win at 2-1 or greater and keying her first and second in multiples with Sara Louise, tough-tripper First Passage (15-1) and Belmont/distance lover, Qualia (5-1).

Something Good to Eat?

An interesting feature, today’s eighth at Belmont, a “non-winners of 3 allowances/optional claimer for older horses going a mile and a sixteenth on the Belmont inner turf, providing a fine chance for value.

Baletti (5-2), given the class drop from graded company and a return to the course over which he’s won three races, makes him a worthy early line favorite. But we’ll take any value offered on Lemon Crème Pie (9-2).

We understand that Jimmy Jerkens has disappointing stats with his turf runners. But he’s a profitable 25 percent efficient with returnees of 90 days and longer and his charge breezed very sharply on Monday, a half mile in :48 termed breezing that was 2nd fastest of 60 that week at the distance.

Further, with two speed types likely to keep each other entertained early, the 5 year old gelding’s stalking style and inner position on this course at today’s distance is a tactical advantage.

Taking Lemon Crème Pie to win at 7-2 or greater and key-boxing him first and second in multiples with Baletti, the sharp Pleasant Strike (3-1), and No Inflation (8-1), from the white hot Proctor shed.
