A Little Wager on Big Budget

There may be faster horses in today’s Aqueduct feature and some with more fashionable pedigrees but none with the developmental pattern and the benefit of a winning race over the track.

That happens to be Big Budget (12-1), a recent Pat Farro claim out of its winter track debut, a maiden off-the-turfer and a race this Langfuhr gelding won by five.

Yes, it’s very difficult to improve a horse claimed from the Tony Dutrow barn but juveniles develop quickly, especially as they approach their 3-year-old season which will arrive in three weeks’ time.
A cozy inside draw, tactical speed and a fiv- pound weight pull beneath apprentice Curatolo makes this social climber work the risk at good odds.

Taking Big Budget to win at 6-1 or greater and keying him first and second in exactas with Dangerous Lad and Festive Spirit.

Running Totals: (984) 305-196-141 Total Dollar Return: $2,101.10 [win selections only]

Unbeatable Is As Unbettable Does

Today’s Aqueduct feature is not very interesting; it’s simply it what it is. Early line favorite Willet is highly likely to be unbettable. Unfortunately, the 3-year-old filly also appears unbeatable.

So the play, as far as this space is concerned, is Willet to win with no price restrictions and we will use her on top to key two exactas; with the speedy Those Lion Eyes and the late running Lady Gracenote.

Running Totals: (983) 304-196-141 Total Dollar Return: $2,098.90 [win selections only]

A Trip For J. P.?

Today’s Gulfstream featured South Beach Stakes drew an overflow field of fillies and mares going 7-1/2 furlongs on the turf. To categorize it as wide open would be to understate the case.

Coming off a Turf Decline Line and just missing going 9 furlongs in the G3 My Charmer on the Calder turf, Trip For A.J. (5-1) returns to a course on which she had two exacta finishes in four starts including a win while turning back to a more suitable distance.

She’s earned her best figures either on this course or going one mile, a distance very close to the race dynamics she’ll encounter today. Her tactical speed, kick and inside post all augur well.

Taking Trip For A.J. to win at early line odds or greater and keying her first and second in exactas with Chad Brown-trained Thai Haku (6-1) and Stan Hough price shot Sea Road (20-1).

Running Totals: (982) 304-196-140 Total Dollar Return: $2,098.90 [win selections only]
